Just like routine maintenance is essential for keeping your car running its best, taking time to clean the vehicle’s interior can preserve its longevity. Whether it’s vacuuming your floor mats or wiping down your leather seats, when you prioritize the cleanliness of your car’s interior, it can help the materials last longer.

As part of your car’s interior maintenance, taking care of your dashboard is an important step. The dashboard is often the first part of your car passengers notice when they sit down. The dash also contains your car’s essential controls, including its heating and air vents, speaker system, control knobs, and display. By caring for the rules embedded in your dash, you can keep them functioning longer. This can save you money and ensure that the controls always work. Here are some tips for maintaining your dash, considering what materials and products to use.

Gather Your Materials

Meadowland GMC Dashboard

The first step to doing a thorough cleaning of your dashboard is to have suitable materials. Having the right equipment to remove dust, eliminate germs, and refresh your dash can leave it smelling fresh and looking good. Here are some materials that you might need to clean your dash:

  • Vacuum with a brush attachment.
  • A soft microfiber cloth.
  • Water with mild soap.
  • A toothbrush or soft paintbrush.
  • Your favorite brand of polish.

These are just our recommended supplies for cleaning your dash. Depending on the materials in your car’s interior, you may use other products. For example, you might use a specialized polish for wood or chrome accents inside your vehicle. Always make sure the products you use are safe for the materials used in your car. Some harsh disinfectants may use chemicals that can eat away at plastics or varnished accents, so refer to your user manual and read all product labels carefully before applying them inside your car.

Remove Dust

After gathering your supplies, the first step is to remove as much dust as possible from your dash. Use your vacuum with a brush attachment to suction the dust from the dashboard, steering wheel, speakers, and air vents. This is a great way to remove most of the dust from your dash without spreading it throughout the vehicle. At this step of the cleaning process, the vacuum may be a better tool than simply wiping the dash with a cloth.

Wiping the dash may send the dust particles into the air, leaving them to settle back into the car’s interior later. When you use a vacuum with a hose, you’re picking the dust-up and ensuring it gets collected in the vacuum instead. Depending on the configuration of your dash, you may experiment with different attachments so you can get into all the nooks and crannies of your vehicle.

Wipe Down and Disinfect

Once you’ve removed as much dust as possible with your vacuum, switch to using a microfiber cloth dipped in a solution of water and mild soap. A microfiber cloth is softer than a standard towel so that it won’t scratch the inside of your vehicle. Additionally, microfiber cloths are better at capturing dust particles rather than spreading them across your dash. Using water and mild soap can provide some gentle cleaning that doesn’t require harsh chemicals that may damage your vehicle’s interior.

If desired, you can also use a disinfectant to wipe down your dash. A disinfectant can kill any germs that may be living on your dashboard. When choosing a disinfectant to use inside your car, make sure you use one that’s safe to apply to the materials that make up the inside of your vehicle. For example, some disinfectants contain strong chemicals that can eat away at varnish, chrome, plastic, or leather.

Clear Vents and Speakers

While dusting and wiping down your vents can remove most of the dirt and dust accumulated in them, you may need to spend additional time cleaning them fully. Try using a toothbrush or soft-bristled paintbrush to clean the slats in your air vents or the holes of your speaker system. These brushes can get into narrow spaces to clear out debris. Cleaning your vents can improve the air quality that circulates through your vehicle, and removing obstructions from your speaker system may improve its sound.

Dry and Polish

Wipe down your dash with a dry microfiber cloth when you’re done. This can remove any remaining water or excess product from your dash. Removing excess product can prevent chemicals from sitting on your dash and causing damage. It can prevent a film from forming on the interior of your car, which may make your dash look cloudy or feel tacky to the touch. If using a polishing product, apply this after you’ve finished cleaning your dash.

Tips for Getting Those Hard-to-Reach Areas

Your car’s dash may include some tight spaces that are hard to reach. Here are some tips to help you get into all the crevices of your vehicle:

  • Use narrow vacuum attachments that can fit into tight spaces to collect dust you can’t reach with a cloth.
  • Get a toothbrush or paintbrush to remove debris that collects in your vent slats, window crevices, and speaker holes.
  • Consider using a brush and vacuum attachment at the same time. Use a dry brush to sweep debris out of tight spaces and apply the vacuum hose to remove it.
  • Try using a can of compressed air to blow out any dust collected in tight spaces.
  • Apply cleaning products to your cloth or brush when cleaning tight spaces to control where it’s applied.

Owning a vehicle is a huge investment. One of the best ways to protect that investment is to keep up with maintenance, get repairs done as needed, and wash it like a professional, thoroughly and often. At Meadowland GMC, we believe there is a difference between running your car through an automated car wash and taking the time to wash it like a professional. Keep reading to find out why it’s important to wash your car properly, the supplies you’ll need, and the exact steps to follow for a clean, shiny vehicle.

Why You Should Properly Wash Your Car

Carmel, NY Car Washes

It’s no secret that washing your car has many benefits. Not only can it make you gleam with pride when you take that freshly washed vehicle out for a ride, but it also provides several practical advantages. A car that is professionally washed is far less likely to have scratches or swirl marks on the paint. This type of damage is often a result of using the wrong cleaning materials and techniques. Running your vehicle through an automatic car wash is also less desirable as these commercial machines can sometimes scrape or mar your vehicle.

Cleaning the exterior of your vehicle properly keeps debris like dirt, bugs, bird droppings, and salt from eating away at the paint. Eroding paint can lead to expensive and unsightly body rust repairs. Washing your car regularly can also extend the life of your vehicle. This results in getting more mileage out of your car, truck, or SUV. When it’s time to get a new vehicle, you can sell it or trade it in at a higher price.

Using the wrong materials can also cause damage to your vehicle by dulling the finish over time. We highly recommend using a microfiber cloth or mitt to wash your car rather than a sponge. Sponges are too abrasive and can cause tiny scratches in the vehicle’s paint. These cleaning tools tend to hold in the dirt and grime. As they are dragged over the paint, the dirt in the sponge can cause damage to your vehicle.

Supplies You Need To Wash Your Car

Now that you know why it’s important to wash your car using professional tools and techniques, let’s take a look at the various supplies you’ll need.

  • Two 5-gallon buckets.
  • Grit guard insert.
  • Wheel cleaner and brush.
  • Car wash shampoo.
  • Car wash mitt made of microfiber.
  • Hose and nozzle.
  • Foam gun or foam cannon.
  • Air blower and microfiber towel for drying.
  • High-quality protectant.

How To Wash Your Car Like a Professional

To wash your car like a professional, we recommend you begin with the wheels and then move on to washing, rinsing, and drying the body of the car. The last thing you’ll want to do is wipe it down with a high-quality protectant. For the best possible results, follow the steps below.

Prep Supplies

Before you begin washing your car, it’s best to have all supplies prepped and ready to go. Gather your choice of car wash shampoo, two 5-gallon buckets, foaming gun or cannon, washing mitts, hose with nozzle, microfiber towels for drying or air blower, and vehicle protectant. Fill one bucket with soapy water using the car wash shampoo. Fill the other bucket with water to be used as a dirty rinse bucket. You’ll want to place the grit guard insert in this bucket too.

Clean the Wheels

Cleaning the wheels first keeps the wheel cleaner from drying directly on the car’s paint. Apply the cleaner to the wheels. Take a wheel brush and clean both the front and inside of the wheel. In between cleaning each tire, thoroughly rinse all dirt and debris from the brush. Be sure to rinse each wheel after you’re done cleaning. Dump the water from both buckets and refill again with soapy water and clean water. Now you’re ready to begin washing the body of your car.

Pre-Clean Your Vehicle

You’ll want to pre-clean your vehicle to remove that top layer of dust and dirt. If you skip this step, you are increasing the chances of scratching your car. Begin by foaming the vehicle’s entire exterior. This will help to wet and loosen that top layer of dirt, dust, and grime. Rinse off the foam with the hose.

Wash Your Car

Now you’re ready to begin washing your car. Dunk the washing mitt into the bucket of soapy water and begin cleaning your vehicle using a side-to-side motion. Start at the roof, then move on to the windshield and the hood. Work your way around the vehicle, sticking to a side-to-side motion. Every so often, place the mitt into the dirty rinse bucket and move it around to get rid of all the dirt that has accumulated. Squeeze the mitt as much as you can and then get it wet and soapy by placing it in the soapy water bucket.

Repeat this pattern, washing the vehicle from top to bottom. The dirtiest part of most vehicles is the bottom third, so you may need to spend extra time on this portion.

Rinse Your Car

Now that you have washed your entire vehicle, including the wheels, it’s time for the rinse. Use your hose and nozzle to completely rinse all the soapy water off the car. Begin at the roof and work your way down to the bottom.

Dry Your Vehicle

Taking the time to dry your vehicle will prevent unsightly water spots from forming on the exterior paint. If you are using an air blower, begin drying by working your way from the top to the bottom. Once most of the water is gone, use a clean microfiber towel to dry the rest of the vehicle. Be sure to focus on the small nooks and crannies where water can remain, such as the door sills, spoilers, and grilles.

Apply a Protectant

While you can end your car washing job by simply drying it, you may want to consider applying a high-quality protectant. This product will not only improve your car’s shine but also protect the paint from dirt, bird droppings, tree sap, and other damaging materials. Use a clean microfiber towel to apply the protectant.

Are you going to take these steps to make your car clean, shiny, and free from dirt and debris? If you do, we’d love to hear about it. Contact us and let us know how this process worked for you.

If you’re currently looking for a new home in the Carmel, New York, area, there are a lot of things you need to consider. Before you sign any contracts, it’s essential to ensure that your driveway is large enough to fit the vehicles you drive. This is especially true if you drive a GMC vehicle, as some of these models tend to be a little larger than their competitors. Below, we’ll provide you with some helpful information you can use to make sure that the home you’re buying comes with a driveway that’s adequate for your GMC vehicle.

Common GMC Vehicle Lengths

GMC Vehicle

To give you an idea of how large of a driveway you need for your GMC vehicles, it first helps to know the length and width of your vehicle. If you don’t feel like taking out a measuring tape to measure your vehicle, here are some dimensions for standard GMC vehicles.

Recommended Driveway Length

To start, you must have a driveway that can accommodate the longer GMC vehicles. You may also want a driveway that’s long enough to fit cars behind one another or for you to pull away from the street a little bit. Generally speaking, you should look for a driveway that’s between 18 and 20 feet long.

However, if you’re driving one of the larger GMC models, you may want to get something a little longer. This should provide you with enough space to fit practically any vehicle, even some of the larger pickup trucks and SUVs. You should also have enough space to walk around the vehicle if you need to.

Recommended Driveway Width

As for the width of the driveway, you’re going to want around 10 feet for every single vehicle. With 10 feet of space for your vehicle, you should have enough space to comfortably pull your car into the driveway without worrying about hitting anything on the sides. You’ll also give yourself enough room to get into the vehicle on both sides. As with the length, GMC vehicles can sometimes be a little bigger, so if you’re driving one of these models, you may want to find a slightly wider driveway.

Driveways for Multiple Cars

If you plan on multiple parking cars in your driveway, you’ll want to adjust the above estimates. To park two vehicles in your driveway, double one of the estimates above, depending on if you wish to park the vehicles side-by-side or behind one another. For example, you should look for a driveway that’s either 40 feet in length and 10 feet wide, or one that is 20 feet in length and 20 feet wide  This should be enough space to accommodate two vehicles of any size while still providing you with enough room to maneuver.

Turnaround Area

If you want to add a turnaround area to your driveway, you’ll need some additional space. A turnaround space is when you have enough room to turn your car around in your driveway so that you can drive forward out instead of reversing.

A general recommendation for a turnaround area is to have a driveway at least 10 feet by 20 feet for a single car and 20 feet by 20 feet for double cars. Since GMC vehicles are often a little bigger than other manufacturers, you may want to get a driveway that’s a little larger than this recommendation. You should also ensure there’s enough space in front of your garage so that you have enough room to turn around.

What To Do if Your Driveway Isn’t Big Enough?

Let’s say you’ve found the perfect house, but the driveway is just a little too small to accommodate your GMC vehicle needs. Before you decide to move onto another home, you have some options for addressing the situation. One option may be to expand the driveway. If you have space around the existing driveway, you may be able to extend it and give yourself the extra space you need.

Also, consider if you have space to park on the street or in a garage. Any other parking options besides the driveway would eliminate the need for you to park your vehicle, or multiple vehicles, in the driveway. Explore different possibilities before deciding that the home isn’t right for you because of your vehicle.

Finally, your final option is to get another vehicle. Consider getting something a little smaller than fits better into your driveway. GMC has plenty of options for you to consider, so you should be able to find something similar to what you have now, only a little bit smaller  For example, if you’re currently driving a GMC Acadia, you could switch to a GMC Terrain, which is almost ten inches shorter.

Find the Right Size GMC Vehicle for Your Driveway

When you’re buying a home, the size of the driveway may not be at the top of your list of concerns, But it’s still an important thing to consider, as you don’t want to find out after you move in that you don’t have room to navigate your vehicle safely.

If you decide to change your vehicle to suit your home’s driveway, Meadowland GMC is here to help. We have a wide range of GMC vehicles available and can help you find one that’s an appropriate size.

You can browse through our inventory of new vehicles or check out some of our used vehicles to get started. Once you see something you like or need help deciding, schedule an appointment to visit our dealership by contacting us here. How Often Should You Change Your Car’s Oil?

Traditional wisdom recommends an oil change every three months or approximately every 3,000 miles, but these estimates are based on outdated oil types and predictive models. Instead, shift your time frame to get an oil change every 10,000 miles; depending on how often you drive, this may be every six, nine, or even 12 months.

How frequently your car needs new oil depends on your car’s make and model, the type of oil it has, and your monthly mileage. Contact our team today for help determining how often you should have your car’s oil changed.

What You Need to Know About Getting Your Car’s Oil Change

Choosing the right oil is just as important as getting your oil changed frequently. Check your manufacturer’s guide or reach out to our team for assistance finding the right oil grade and material options for your car’s make and model. At Meadowland GMC, we offer standard and discounted oil change services with these three oil options:

Conventional Oil

ACDelco’s Gold Conventional Oil is a standard oil that features a custom blend of additives that ensure smoother engine performance, less risk of system corrosion, and protection against engine wear.

Synthetic Oil

We offer two types of synthetic oil through our in-house oil changing services:

  • ACDelco dexos1 Full Synthetic Oil. With its excellent resistance to oxidation and sludge buildup, the oil lasts longer and degrades more slowly. It can also handle cold startups because of its low viscosity at cold temperatures, making it an excellent choice for your autumn or winter oil change.
  • Mobil 1 Full Synthetic Oil. This oil offers high-temperature stability, resistance to wear and sludge, and more. It also provides plenty of wear protection and lubrication during cold startups in any season.

How to Save Money on Oil Changes for Your Vehicle

  • Compare the efficiency or mileage of different oils. Generally, synthetic oils last longer than conventional oils in your car’s engine. Also, every oil brand is slightly different, and they come at various price points. Some synthetic oils offer performance for between 3000 and 5000 miles, while others can last up to 20,000 miles but may cost extra due to that long lifespan. When trying to find a budget-friendly oil, consider both the price tag and the duration.
  • Ask us about deals and long-term packages. Inquire about what deals you can receive, both for one-off oil changes and for long-term programs or comprehensive packages. Not only is this a great way to save money, but comprehensive services help extend the lifespan of your car overall.
  • Track your mileage. When you get your oil changed, you may get a window sticker estimating when your next visit should be. However, your mileage can vary significantly from the anticipated average. Keeping track of your mileage from your latest oil change will help you determine when the right moment is for new oil.
  • Don’t wait until the last minute. Putting off your following oil change might save you money in the short term by shifting the bill, but it can easily cost you more in the long run. Oil degrades over time. The upper limit of its lifespan isn’t when the oil starts to degrade; it’s when the degradation is too big of a risk. Pushing back your routine oil changes can lead to excessive engine wear, poor pumpability, and corrosion.

What Is Financing? How does GMC Financing work?

Instead of paying the total price of a car with cash upfront, most drivers across the United States choose to take out a loan with a fixed term and monthly payment. Over 80% of drivers finance their vehicle when purchasing a new car.

Depending on who you prefer to receive financing through, your car dealership or bank will assess your finances and the expected price range of your future vehicle. Then they’ll calculate an interest rate, the length of the loan (or the term), and the monthly payment you’ll be responsible for paying. Some car loans require putting money down or paying a percentage of the price of the car immediately. Still, many dealerships offer 0% down financing options that make it easier for you to select and own your preferred vehicle without barriers.

The Benefits of Financing Your Next Vehicle

Most drivers prefer financing over all-cash purchases for several reasons. Some of the essential benefits of GMC financing include:

  • The ability to purchase a car immediately. When you need a new car, you may not have time to save up for the total price of a replacement. Financing options help you get a new car on your schedule.
  • Ease of finding a car to fit your budget. Car financing programs through a dealership are highly flexible. You can talk to a representative to find the correct term length (for example, 72 months) and the right monthly payment size. This flexibility helps you get a safe, reliable vehicle without straining your budget or making you worry about the payments.
  • The convenience of not having to go to your bank or a third-party commercial lender to get a loan for your next car. At Meadowland of Carmel, we offer on-site financing options with fast approvals and flexible terms. Our team can crunch the numbers while you’re exploring the lot. Even if you already have a bank-approved loan option, our team can offer a competitive rate, so you get the best possible deal without going back and forth.

Financing vs. Leasing

Leasing your next vehicle may be an attractive option, but paying that lower monthly fee doesn’t help you own your vehicle. Financing can be a better option, both in the long-term and short-term, if you want to own your car for multiple years or if you drive long distances that may cost you additional leasing fees. Talk to our finance team so you can compare the monthly and total costs of both options; we’re here to help you find the right choice for your budget and lifestyle.

When you finance your car, you’re moving towards car ownership. You also don’t have the customization, mileage, and add-on restrictions to which a leasing agreement may hold you.

The Pre-Qualification Process of Financing a New Car

There are two critical steps in the pre-qualification process of financing a new car. First, use a car loan calculator to determine your budget. Determine how much you’re willing to spend each month on a car payment and how many years you want to have the financing arrangement for. The calculator will then tell you “how much car” you can buy at different interest rates. Once you have this total in mind, you can start shopping for models and options that fit comfortably in your budget.

Once you’ve narrowed down your options and have a good idea of what you’re looking for, you can get pre-qualified or pre-approved for your car loan. During this process, you fill out a simple application. Our team will then tell you how much you’re potentially approved for, what interest rates you qualify for, and other details. This puts you one step closer to driving away in your new car! It also confirms what you calculated earlier, so you can zero in on your favorite car with more confidence.

You also don’t have to wait until you’ve found your perfect car to get pre-qualified. You can get pre-qualified at any time so you can shop, test drive, and make your choice while knowing precisely what your options are. Our financing application process requires no obligation.

Helpful Tips for the Pre-Qualification Process

Pre-qualifying for car financing is simple, but you can take a few steps to make the process more enjoyable and end up with the car you prefer. Try these tips:

  • Always apply for financing through your dealership. Even if you’ve already applied through your bank or credit union, our dealership can offer you competitive options and may even be able to provide a lower interest rate.
  • Know your monthly budget ahead of time. We want to help you get a car that fits comfortably in your ideal spending range. If you know how much you want to spend every month on your car payment, it will be easier for you to find the flexible terms that make that monthly amount possible.
  • Know the difference between pre-qualification and pre-approval. Pre-qualification processes need a “soft” credit pull that doesn’t affect your credit score. You can use your pre-qualification results early in the shopping process, especially if you’re taking your time. A pre-approval process may require a “hard” pull on your credit score, so you can reserve this step until you’re closer to making a purchase.
