Looking to change the battery in your GMC key fob? Wondering if that’s the reason your remote won’t work? We’re here to help. A dead battery is the most common reason for your key fob not working. While your GMC key fob’s battery should last up to four years, it will inevitably need to be replaced eventually. The good news is that it’s free and easy to do yourself.

In this article by our team at Meadowland GMC, we walk you through the steps of changing the battery in your GMC key fob. We also share a few other things to check if it turns out that the battery isn’t the problem. It might be faulty if your battery still isn’t working after these steps. Contact our team at GMC Meadowland, and we can arrange a replacement.

GMC Key Fob

How To Change the Battery in a GMC Key Fob

Replacing the battery in your GMC key fob should take less than five minutes. It’s simple enough to remove the cover, replace the battery, and put it back together. If the key fob doesn’t work after replacing the battery, another issue may be with your vehicle or fob. Bring your new or used vehicle to Meadowland GMC, and our expert technicians can fix it for you and get your GMC key fob working again.

Step-By-Step Guide

Follow the steps in this article to replace your battery. The specific process may vary slightly depending on your GMC key fob’s model and year. It’s always a good idea to consult your vehicle’s owner’s manual or contact your local GMC dealership for a step-by-step guide tailored to your key fob model.

Buy a New Battery

First, you’ll need to determine what battery your GMC key fob uses. You can usually find these details in your vehicle’s owner’s manual. Most batteries for GMC key fobs run on three-volt CR2032 batteries. Luckily, they’re pretty easy to find. You can usually buy them at your nearest hardware or department store. They also come in packs, so you can stock up in case your battery dies again.

Gather Tools

Replacing your battery is fairly easy, and you don’t need anything too complicated. All you need is a small flathead screwdriver. If you don’t have one, you can use a coin to open the key fob.

Remove the Back Cover

Carefully pry open the back cover of your key fob using a flathead screwdriver. There should be a small slot on the side of the fob where you can insert the screwdriver and twist it to separate the fob into two halves. Be careful not to force the panel, as this could cause it to break. It should pop apart easily.

Remove and Replace the Old Battery

Once you’ve taken off the back cover, take a look at whether the positive side of the battery is facing up or down before you remove it. This will tell you how to replace it. Once you’ve taken note, you can remove the dead battery from its housing and replace it with a new battery. Make sure that the positive side is facing you or is toward the back panel of the fob.

Replace the Cover

Once you’ve settled the new battery in its correct position, you can line up the two halves of the key fob and push them back together. You should hear a soft click when it’s locked correctly.

Test the Fob

After following the steps above to replace your battery, your key fob should work. If it doesn’t, try each step again and make sure that you’ve positioned the battery’s polarity correctly. If you’ve repeated the process and it still won’t work, it’s likely not a battery issue.

Other Things To Check if the Problem Isn’t the Battery

If replacing your battery using the steps above doesn’t fix the issue, another problem may be affecting your GMC key fob. Usually, this means there’s an issue with the fob itself or your vehicle’s electronics. Here are some things to try:

  • Reassemble the key fob: Make sure that you’ve properly reassembled the key fob after replacing the battery. Check that you’ve aligned the two halves correctly and that they’re snapped securely into place.
  • Check for damage: Examine your key fob for any physical damage. You may need to replace it if it’s cracked, it’s water-damaged, or it has a broken button.
  • Check the buttons: Sometimes, the button contacts within the key fob can wear out. If you’re handy with electronics, you can try carefully cleaning or resoldering the contacts.
  • Resync the key fob: If you’ve replaced the battery, your key fob may need to be resynchronized with your vehicle. Check your owners manual for instructions on how to do this for your specific GMC model.
  • Check for interference: Interference from another device or an electrical source can interrupt the key fob’s signal. Try using the key fob in different locations to rule out any interference issues.

If you’ve ruled out all other possibilities and your key fob still doesn’t work, it might be faulty, and you may need to replace it with a new one. Battery replacement is one of the many services we offer at Meadowland GMC. We’ll inspect the fob and your vehicle and either fix or replace it for you in no time.

In the changing landscape of automotive technology, GMC safety features are known to uphold the durability, dependability, and ruggedness associated with the brand. The innovative safety and driver-assistance technologies ensure a secure and confident driving experience whenever you’re on the road. In this article, we delve deep into the latest GMC features, highlighting advancements in safety for you and your family.

GMC Safety Features

Advanced GMC Safety Features

GMC vehicles are equipped with advanced driving-assistance systems and technologies that act as a second set of eyes for you to help avoid potential collisions and mishaps on the road. Below are some of the latest GMC features you can find in your vehicle for enhanced safety.

Adaptive Cruise Control

The GMC Adaptive Cruise Control is a driver-assistance feature that operates the vehicle’s acceleration and braking and adjusts the speed to maintain a set following gap from the vehicle in front. It uses a forward-looking camera along with occasional radar technology to follow vehicles ahead of you safely. You can set a cruise control speed and enable the feature by pressing the cruise control On/Off button on the steering wheel. It’s important to know that the feature doesn’t steer your vehicle and requires your complete attention while driving.

There’s also an Adaptive Cruise Control Camera that helps you to automatically adapt your vehicle speed and reduce the frequency of braking and accelerating.

Lane Change Alert

The Lane Change Alert with the Side Blind Zone Alert feature warns you by assisting with lane changes when a vehicle approaches or is in the side blind zone. It provides side-mirror alerts by using radar sensors in the rear corners of your vehicle to help you avoid lane-change collisions. When both features activate, you’ll find an amber warning symbol flashing as an additional warning not to change lanes. You also have the option to turn off the Lane Change Alert from your infotainment system screen in the Vehicle Personalization menu.

IntelliBeam Auto High-Beam Control

IntelliBeam can turn your vehicle’s high beams on and off automatically, depending on the surrounding traffic conditions. It uses a sensor located at the top center of the windshield to turn on your vehicle’s high-beam headlamps when it’s dark enough in the absence of traffic and then turns them off when conditions change. You can disable the feature using the High/Low-Beam Changer or the Flash-to-Pass feature.

Rear Park Assist

The GMC Rear Park Assist notifies you of nearby detected vehicles when you’re in reverse. This feature uses multiple ultrasonic sensors located on the rear bumper of the vehicle to prevent collisions. The sensors may detect objects up to 8 feet behind your vehicle when backing up at low speeds. You can turn the feature on and off using the Rear Park Assist system control or your vehicle’s settings menu.

Forward Collision Alert

Forward Collision Alert warns you if it detects a potential collision with a vehicle. The feature uses a forward-looking camera or camera and radar sensors to identify front-end collisions. You may also receive a tailgating alert if you’re following a vehicle much too closely. If you’re approaching a vehicle that’s ahead of you too quickly risking a potential crash, the system will flash a red collision alert on the lower windshield, along with eight high-pitched front beeps.

Front Pedestrian Braking

Front Pedestrian Braking, available at speeds between 5 and 50 mph, is an active safety feature that helps you avoid or reduce the severity of a front-end collision with a pedestrian or a cyclist. This feature has limited nighttime and low-visibility performance and works better in the daytime. Your vehicle may automatically apply hard emergency braking when it’s about to crash into a pedestrian ahead of it. Depending on the selected alert type, you may hear high-pitched front beeps or both-side Safety Alert Seat pulses.

Safety Alert Seat

The Safety Alert Seat feature uses left, right, or both-side driver seat vibration pulses to get your immediate attention in case of a potential threat. You can sense vibrations on your seat’s bottom cushion as crash avoidance system alerts. This feature works together with other collision-avoidance warning technologies in your vehicle. Other driver-assist technologies, including Forward Collision Alert, Rear Park Assist, and Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, can activate this feature.

Trailer Side Blind Zone Alert

The Trailer Side Blind Zone Alert feature notifies you of moving vehicles in the side-blind zone to help you avoid lane change collisions. You can turn on the feature by enabling Lane Change Alert through the Settings menu when you attach a trailer to your vehicle. This will disable the regular Lane Change Alert with Side Blind Zone Alert feature, and you’ll only be able to use the Trailer Side Blind Zone feature. You can easily input the trailer length as part of the trailer profile in the Trailering App.

The feature may also light up a warning indicator in the presence of nonmoving objects, such as guardrails, signboards, and trees.

Intersection Automatic Emergency Braking

The Intersection Automatic Emergency Braking helps you reduce or avoid the severity of an intersection collision when it detects a cross-traffic vehicle. This feature uses a camera to look ahead of your vehicle in forward gear and monitor cross-traffic vehicles. During a potential collision where a detected vehicle is approaching from the right or left side too quickly, the feature provides a flashing collision alert along with front left or front right beeps. The feature may automatically apply hard emergency braking or enhance your hard braking if you fail to act swiftly or if the situation arises suddenly.

The GMC Yukon may not be the first vehicle that comes to mind when considering fuel efficiency. In an era where environmental concerns and gas prices play significant roles when deciding which car to buy, understanding this full-size SUV’s gas mileage is important. Gas mileage in the Yukon varies depending on your chosen engine size and trim level.

GMC Yukon XL Mileage

Yukon and Yukon XL: Gas Mileage

While the GMC Yukon may not be celebrated as a fuel efficiency champion, it does exhibit an improvement in city driving mileage compared to its predecessor. The smaller 5.3-liter V-8 engine is the most efficient gas-powered option in the lineup. The 5.3-liter engine has an EPA rating of 15 mpg in the city and a respectable 20 mpg on the highway. The 6.2-liter V-8 has a rating of 14 mpg in the city and 18 mpg on the highway.

The turbo-diesel six-cylinder engine is the most fuel-efficient in the lineup, offering 21 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway. You can find more details about the GMC Yukon’s fuel efficiency through the EPA.

Let’s break that down by trim level so you can easily see what kind of gas mileage you could expect if you buy a GMC Yukon:

  • GMC Yukon SLE 4×2 and SLE 4×4: These models achieve an identical 15 mpg in the city and 20 mpg on the highway.
  • GMC Yukon SLT 4×2 and SLT 4×4: Like their SLE counterparts, the SLT models maintain a fuel efficiency rating of 15 mpg in the city and 20 mpg on the highway.
  • GMC Yukon Denali 4×2 and Denali 4×4: The Denali variants, known for their luxurious features and robust performance, display slightly lower city efficiency, earning 14 mpg in the city. However, they maintain a respectable 20 mpg on the highway.
  • GMC Yukon AT4 4×4: The rugged Yukon AT4, tailored for off-road adventures, matches the city and highway efficiency of the SLE and SLT models, delivering 15 mpg in the city and 20 mpg on the highway.
  • GMC Yukon Denali Ultimate 4×4: The range-topping Denali Ultimate, boasting an array of premium amenities, follows the Denali trend with 14 mpg in the city and 19 mpg on the highway.

All trim levels except the AT4 of the Yukon have the option of a six-cylinder turbo-diesel engine that will net you 21 mpg in the city, 27 mpg on the highway, and 23 mpg combined.

GMC Yukon and Yukon XL: Available Engines

Much like its predecessor, the latest-generation Yukon continues to provide a choice of two V-8 powertrains. There’s the 5.3-liter V-8, which delivers a hearty 355 horsepower, and the potent 6.2-liter V-8, which boasts an impressive 420 horsepower. These gasoline-powered engines offer a robust blend of performance and capability, catering to various driving preferences.

If you have demanding towing needs, GMC presents a compelling alternative: a 3.0-liter turbo-diesel inline-six engine. This diesel powerhouse stands out with its remarkable 460 lb-ft of torque, making it the preferred option if you require the muscle to tow heavy loads. It’s a testament to GMC’s commitment to providing diverse powertrain choices to suit the unique needs of its customers.

All Yukon models are equipped with a 10-speed automatic transmission. Whether you opt for rear- or all-wheel drive, the Yukon ensures a seamless and responsive driving experience.

The GMC Yukon presents a well-rounded selection of powertrain options, ranging from potent V-8 engines for robust performance to a diesel engine ideal for heavy-duty towing. Whether you prioritize power, efficiency, or off-road capability, the Yukon’s versatile lineup caters to various driving needs, ensuring there’s a Yukon model suited to your specific preferences and requirements. Check out our selection of new vehicles, including the GMC Yukon.

Average Yukon and Yukon XL Range

All available engine and trim configurations of the GMC Yukon come with a generous 24-gallon fuel tank. This sizable tank capacity ensures you can enjoy extended journeys without frequent fuel stops, enhancing the Yukon’s practicality and long-distance cruising capability.

Let’s delve into the specifics of the range you can expect from each engine option.

5.3-Liter V-8

With its city fuel efficiency of 15 mpg, this engine offers an impressive city driving range of 384 miles on a full tank. When you hit the open highway equipped with the 5.3-liter V-8, the Yukon can comfortably cover a remarkable 480 miles before requiring a refuel. In mixed driving conditions, which combine city and highway use, you can expect to travel approximately 432 miles on a single tank.

6.2-Liter V-8

While this engine exhibits slightly lower fuel efficiency figures at 14 mpg in the city, it still provides a substantial city driving range of 336 miles. On longer highway journeys, the 6.2-liter V-8-equipped Yukon can cruise up to 432 miles before seeking a refueling station. In combined use, which blends city and highway driving, you’ll have the convenience of covering around 384 miles without needing to fill up.

3.0-Liter Turbo-Diesel

As the most fuel-efficient of the available engine options, the diesel V-6 truly shines when maximizing your mileage. With an impressive fuel efficiency of 21 mpg in the city, this engine boasts an exceptional city driving range of 504 miles on a single tank. On the highway, the Yukon diesel can take you on an extended journey of up to 648 miles, making it an excellent choice for long-distance travelers. The 2024 GMC Sierra Interior Highlights

The 2024 GMC Sierra 1500 interior is thoughtfully designed to cater to the driver’s needs, placing everything within easy reach for a convenient and intuitive driving experience. As you ascend through the trim levels, GMC’s commitment to quality and sophistication in the Sierra becomes increasingly evident.

Starting with the SLE trim, a notable enhancement is the introduction of a standard 12.3-inch digital instrument panel. This feature modernizes the cockpit, providing essential information in a visually appealing and easily accessible format.

Going further up the Sierra lineup, such as the Denali Ultimate trim, unlocks a realm of luxury. Here, open-pore wood trim and a profusion of leather-draped surfaces elevate the interior to unparalleled luxury. The front seats in this exclusive variant are a testament to comfort and customization, offering an impressive 16-way power adjustment capability and integrated massage functions.

Practicality isn’t overlooked in the Sierra’s interior design. Ample cubby storage spaces are thoughtfully positioned throughout the cabin, providing convenient storage for a diverse range of small items and personal belongings.

A Game-Changing GMC Sierra Tailgate

One of the groundbreaking innovations that sets the 2024 GMC Sierra apart from the competition is the six-function GMC MultiPro Tailgate. This revolutionary feature is a game-changer for loading, unloading, and accessing the cargo box, offering unparalleled convenience and versatility.

A standout function of this advanced tailgate is the ability to open and close the primary gate easily, thanks to the power release feature on the key fob. Say goodbye to struggling with heavy tailgates; the Sierra makes it effortless.

But the utility continues beyond there. The MultiPro Tailgate introduces a load stop to the equation — a practical addition that helps prevent items from sliding out of the bed. Whether transporting tools or equipment, this feature provides peace of mind and ensures your cargo stays secure during transit.

When you access the cargo box, the MultiPro Tailgate truly shines. Its fold-down inner gate makes loading and unloading a breeze, eliminating the need to reach over the tailgate. This inner gate has a remarkable trick — it can fold into a full-width step, supporting up to an impressive 375 pounds. This step transforms the Sierra’s tailgate into a convenient platform, making reaching your cargo or accessing the truck bed easier.

For those times when you need to transport multiple layers of cargo, the inner gate load stop comes to the rescue once again. It ensures that second-tier items remain securely in place, preventing unexpected spills during transit.

Versatility is at the core of the MultiPro Tailgate’s design. Recognizing that some situations may require the tailgate to remain closed, GMC has included a feature that allows you to disable the inner gate. This is especially handy when you have a hitch or other equipment installed, ensuring that nothing interferes with your towing setup.

But the MultiPro Tailgate isn’t just about practicality; it also enhances your outdoor entertainment experience. With the optional MultiPro Audio System by KICKER, you can take your music outdoors and enjoy high-quality sound while tailgating or camping.

The MultiPro Tailgate is standard on the AT4, Denali, AT4X, and Denali Ultimate. It’s available on the Pro, SLE, Elevation, and SLT trim levels.

Infotainment at the Forefront

The centerpiece of the Sierra 1500’s interior is its impressive 13.4-inch touchscreen, which serves as the command center for the truck’s cutting-edge infotainment system. This generously sized screen not only offers a visually striking display but also comes with several advanced features.

Wireless connectivity is a highlight, as both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are seamlessly integrated, eliminating the hassle of cords and cables. But that’s just the beginning. The Sierra incorporates built-in Google software, opening up a world of possibilities. You can access an app store, ensuring you have the latest apps and services. Navigating the road becomes effortless with integrated maps, and the responsive voice assistant streamlines your interactions with the infotainment system.

The Sierra offers an optional 12-speaker Bose audio system for audiophiles and music enthusiasts, delivering concert-like sound quality within the cabin. This premium audio experience transforms every drive into a musical journey.

Moreover, Sierra’s commitment to convenience shines through with features like wireless phone charging, ensuring your devices stay powered up without cords. Additional power points are strategically placed throughout the interior, catering to various needs and ensuring that you and your passengers can stay connected and charged during your journeys.

GMC Sierra Cabin Space and Upholstery

The interior offers a range of premium features. The Denali Ultimate boasts full-grain leather seating, an exquisite topographical map pattern of Mt. Denali’s summit, and laser-etched Paldao wood, aluminum, and chrome trim accents. Meanwhile, the AT4X impresses with its red double-needle stitching and ceramic white accents. The Denali offers real wood trim and refined accents for those seeking sophistication, while the AT4 delivers perforated front leather seating surfaces. The SLT model stands out with its available 10-way power-adjustable heated and ventilated front bucket seats adorned with perforated leather appointments.

Sierra 1500 AT4 models have a Duramax 3.0-liter turbo-diesel engine or an optional 6.2-liter gas V-8 engine. GMC has enhanced the turbo-diesel engine with new steel pistons and a revised combustion bowl.

It has also tuned the turbo compressor, added new fuel injectors, and improved the engine’s temperature control systems. This engine gets a best-in-class 305 horsepower and 495 lb-ft of torque. It also has an 8,900-pound towing capacity.

Opting for the 6.2-liter V-8 gas engine with Dynamic Fuel Management technology provides 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque. And you can tow up to 9,000 pounds with the proper equipment.

What Makes the 2024 GMC Sierra 1500 AT4 Different?

The GMC Sierra AT4 features a rugged style, off-road equipment, and a technology suite with intuitive, advanced features to tackle the harshest terrain. The AT4 has a factory-installed 2-inch suspension lift that fits 33-inch Goodyear off-road mud-terrain-rated Wrangler tires.

Other upgrades include off-road-tuned Rancho monotube shock absorbers, a two-speed AutoTrac transfer case, an automatic locking rear differential, red vertical recovery hooks, and skid plates. For enhanced durability, you can upgrade to a Carbon Pro composite bed.

The AT4 is as comfortable on the inside as it is capable on the outside. Signature Jet Black with Kalahari perforated leather upholstery features AT4 embroidery and accents. Heated and ventilated front seats and a heated leather-wrapped steering wheel add premium comfort. It also features premium front and rear floor liners with removable carpet inserts for easy cleanup. Convenient storage in the rear seatback and underneath the back seat keeps your gear safe from prying eyes.

All the in-vehicle technology runs through a 13.4-inch touchscreen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay pre-installed. Other technological features include a 12.3-inch digital driver information screen, an available multicolor head-up display, and a standard Bose premium sound system with a Richbass woofer.

2024 GMC Sierra AT4X

GMC introduced the Sierra 1500 AT4X in 2023, taking the off-road trim to another level. In 2024, this Sierra model features Multimatic DSSV dampers for a smoother ride. It also has front and rear electronic locking differentials you won’t find on any other truck in its class.

GMC asked American Expedition Vehicles (AEV) to provide additional off-road equipment for the AT4X. These models have an AEV-stamped steel front bumper with front winch capability and an AEV-stamped boron steel front approach skid plate for added protection.

Trim-exclusive 18-inch painted aluminum wheels with dark-painted pockets wrapped in 33-inch Goodyear Wrangler Territory mud-terrain tires combine style with exceptional off-road traction.

Inside the AT4X, heated and ventilated 16-way power front seats feature a massage function. The Obsidian Rush interior has full-grain leather upholstery with technical-grain leather accents. Authentic Vanta ash wood trim adds a sophisticated style.

What Type of Off-Roading Does the AT4 Provide?

The AT4 takes off-road adventures to new levels of enjoyment. Its factory lift adds significant height to clear more obstacles, while the underbody skid plates protect the engine and drivetrain from damage as you conquer the rough terrain.

Getting stuck in the mud is nearly impossible with the 33-inch mud-terrain tires, especially when it has the 3.0-liter turbo-diesel’s 495 lb-ft of torque. But for serious fun, the 6.2-liter gas-powered V-8 offers thrilling drives.

GMC thought of everything with the selectable drive modes that tune your AT4’s throttle, suspension, and steering systems to suit your driving needs. The standard Touring mode works well for your everyday commute, while a Sport mode optimizes powertrain calibrations to make driving more exciting.

When you leave the pavement behind, the Terrain mode gets your AT4 moving with confidence. An Off-Road mode dials in your AT4 for precise traction and control when the surfaces get challenging, and the Tow/Haul mode makes taking your ATVs, jet skis, or boat along on your next adventure easy. The AT4 also comes standard with hill descent control. This anti-lock braking system helps you stay in control on steep declines.

GMC’s AT4X takes all this to the next level with an off-road-tuned chassis. Uniquely tuned springs support increased front and rear suspension, while multimedia DSSV dampers feature three separate spool valves that control damping and three connected chambers for fluid flow.

The front and rear electronic locking differentials let you lock the front and rear axles with the push of a button. In the locked position, both wheels spin together on each axle, regardless of the resistance they encounter. This system helps keep your truck moving over harsh terrain, and you won’t find it on any other truck in its class. All in all, the AT4X offers unparalleled performance over rough and uneven surfaces.

There are many battery sizes available for the GMC Sierra 1500. However, buying the wrong one could lead to inconsistencies and other problems with your vehicle’s electrical system, such as draining your battery too quickly. Our team here at Meadowland GMC in Carmel has put together this guide to help you choose the right battery and make sure your truck is performing at its best.

How To Determine the Battery Size for Your GMC Sierra 1500

To find out the battery size and type that GMC recommends for your Sierra 1500, check your owner’s manual or contact our battery service center in Carmel, New York. For the best quality, choosing a GMC-approved battery’s a good idea. Many manufacturers produce these batteries, and they often come with warranties. If your replacement battery fails before the warranty term expires, you can get another one for free in many circumstances. However, choosing the wrong battery size could void the warranty.

Batteries for a GMC Sierra 1500 Made After 2006

From the 2007 model year to the current generation, GMC Sierra trucks use an H6 or Group 48 battery, which usually costs about $350 and has a rectangular shape with recessed top post terminals. One option is the OPTIMA YELLOWTOP DH6, which is 10.94 inches long, 6.89 inches wide, and 7.48 inches tall. It weighs about 54 pounds and has a C20 rating of 72Ah, meaning that the battery can deliver this energy over 20 hours. The YELLOWTOP also gives 800 cold cranking amps, enough for reliable operation even in cold weather.

If you want to make sure your Sierra performs well, stay away from smaller batteries. You should also avoid batteries that are too big, as some batteries may not fit inside your truck correctly. Even a large vehicle such as the GMC Sierra 1500 only has a limited amount of space for the battery and other components.

Batteries for Trucks Made After 1972

If your GMC truck was built between 1973 and 2006, there are several different battery sizes to choose from. H6 or Group 48 batteries work in many of these vehicles, and pricing and specifications vary somewhat from one battery to the next.

Battery Sizes for Older Trucks

For GMC trucks built between 1960 and 1972, several Group 34 battery variants are available. Group 34 batteries are slightly smaller than H6 or Group 48 options. They weigh less and are slightly less powerful. These older GMC Sierras include fewer electronics, so they don’t need as much battery power as modern vehicles unless several accessories were installed recently.

Most batteries for modern vehicles can produce 12 volts, but trucks built before 1960 may still use 6 volts. For these vehicles, consider the 6-volt OPTIMA REDTOP. It has a C20 rating of 50 Ah and is 10.06 inches long, 3.63 inches wide, and 8.15 inches tall.

This battery costs about $250 and weighs 18.5 lbs. You can use most batteries that fit under the hood with a newer 12-volt electrical system for one of these trucks. No matter how old your GMC Sierra 1500 is, choosing a more powerful YELLOWTOP battery is a good idea if you have electronic accessories such as a winch or an aftermarket stereo system.

Possible Causes of Battery Failure

The battery in your GMC Sierra 1500 could fail for a variety of reasons, including cold weather, time, corrosion, or excessive draining.

Cold Weather

Batteries that are older and already partially drained may not start in cold weather, especially if your vehicle has lots of accessories and electronics. Carmel, New York, usually has cold winters, so it’s a good idea to choose a battery with more power than you need in normal circumstances. That way, you won’t be stuck in your driveway when you need to commute in freezing weather.

Time

No matter how powerful they are, all batteries will wear out eventually. Car batteries usually last for three to five years, so if yours is more than 5 years old, go ahead and have a new one installed by one of our certified service professionals. This can keep you from being stranded far from home when your battery finally runs out of juice.

Even if you have a newer battery, it could run out of energy if you don’t drive your truck for a long period of time. The alternator usually recharges the battery, but it only works when the vehicle is running. Adding a battery tender or trickle charger prevents this problem by delivering a steady charge to your battery during storage.

Corrosion

Corrosion at battery connections or terminals often causes failure as well. It keeps the alternator or trickle charger from doing its job and recharging your battery. Corrosion often looks like a white powder or a blue or green growth that resembles mold or moss. You can use a rag or a stiff wire brush to clean it off when needed.

Excessive Draining

If your battery dies because you left the headlights, an interior light, or another accessory on too long, you can usually get a jump-start instead of a new battery. Ask an expert to make sure your battery still works properly and remember to check your truck after you park for things that might drain it. Another potential cause of battery draining is an electronic parasite, such as a bad alternator. If your alternator isn’t working correctly, your battery won’t recharge when needed, and it may die often. A broken fuse or another problem could drain the battery as well.
