Automakers are spearheading environmentally friendly practices intending to decrease the carbon footprint through manufacturing electric vehicles. General Motors is dedicated to an all-electric future goal by manufacturing reliable, high-performance electric vehicles using Ultium’s EV architecture. Our tech experts at Meadowland GMC highlight two GMC EV vehicles: the GMC Hummer EV Pickup and the GMC Hummer EV SUV.
Ultium EV Architecture
Ultium is the foundation of modular, flexible EVs. This system paves the way to an electric future through Ultium’s pouch cell design. This design accommodates a wide range of EV styles and sizes, giving GMC a flexible electric model lineup, power, flexibility, and excellent performance on the road. The Ultium system comprises:
Ultium platform: It features a modular battery and drive unit combinations that are flexible enough to build a wide range of vehicles such as trucks, SUVs, crossovers, and cars with exceptional design, performance, range, and affordability.
Ultium drive: It’s made up of electric motors, single-speed transmissions, and integrated power electronics that give EVs their power and torque.
The Ultium battery: This system uses cells stacked either vertically or horizontally to power vehicles. Vertically stacked cells power SUVs and pickups, while horizontally stacked cells power performance vehicles.
Ultium’s battery management system: The battery management system uses fewer wires for the EVs, which reduces the battery weight and gives it a longer range. The system can also power multiple EV types from a common set of battery components, which makes the batteries reusable for second-life applications.
GMC Hummer EVs
The GMC Hummer is making a grand comeback in the industry with two new electric vehicles: the Hummer EV pickup and the Hummer EV SUV. Both vehicles carry stellar off-road prowess. GMC labels the EV pickup as a super truck. This is because of the truck’s features and specifications, such as excellent towing capacity, vast power, and long driving breadth. The EV pickup also has standard equipment contrived to make it extremely agile and robust on Carmel terrains.
The GMC Hummer EV SUV will be the second release from the Hummer EV lineup and will launch in 2023 as a 2024 model. This model will be the SUV version of the Pickup but with a few changes. It will be smaller than the Pickup because of a 20-inch difference in height and a shorter wheelbase. From roomy interiors and a four-wheel steering CrabWalk mode to extreme rock climbing abilities, the Hummer EVs are undoubtedly back to dethrone their rivals as the undisputed off-road kings.
Engine and Performance
The GMC Hummer EV Pickup has a three-electric motor powertrain that generates 1,000 horsepower and 11,500 lb-ft torque, which provides excellent towing capacity. The Pickup is able to achieve zero to 60 miles per hour in just 3 seconds due to the Watts to Freedom launch control driving mode. All-wheel drive is also standard across the Pickup’s lineup.
Up to three electric motors will power the Hummer EV SUV, providing an estimated 830 horsepower. The SUV will have four-wheel steering CrabWalk mode and an adjustable air suspension up to 6 inches. GMC provides an optional Extreme Off-Road package for extreme off-road experiences with special features.
They include extra underbody protection, 36-inch all-terrain tires, and low-mounted cameras for increased visibility while maneuvering. Additional features include a locking front differential, rear motors which can electronically copy a locked differential, and enhanced heavy-duty axles.
Exterior
The Hummer EV Pickup boasts 79.1 inches, a wheelbase of 135.6 inches, a five-foot cargo bed, and a trunk volume of 11.3 cubic feet. Other exterior features include an animated lighting system, an infinity roof that has modular, transparent sky panels, and a MultiPro tailgate.
Exterior features for the Hummer EV SUV include a power swing gate with a rear-mounted spare tire, an infinity roof with modular, transparent sky panels, power front trunk storage, the dominating height of 77.8 inches, and an impressive lighting system.
Interior
The Hummer EV Pickup interior offers moon-inspired touches such as the moon-boot footprint on the dead pedal and speaker grilles. It also has a removable roof giving it a convertible vibe. Other interior details include a 14-speaker Bose audio system featuring Centerpoint, a 12.3-inch color driver information center display, and a 13.4-inch color touchscreen infotainment display.
The SUV has rear flat-folding seats to provide a hollow cargo area and a cargo floor that lifts to provide an under-floor concealed storage room. It also possesses a 3-D dashboard that displays both vertical and horizontal air vents. The interior has leather-stitched seating surfaces, a thick t-shaped shifter, and a rotary drive-mode selector on the center console.
Charging and Battery Life
Ultium’s battery-pack technology provides the Hummer EV a 329-mile driving range per charge. The Hummer uses an 800-volt electrical architecture and has a 350-kilowatt rapid-charging capacity, which can charge 100 miles of range in just 10 minutes. You can charge your GMC EV at DC fast-charging stations. Although you can charge the vehicle at home with an adapter, the charging speeds are considerably slower.
The automaker recommends charging the EV at the designated stations around Carmel. The GMC Hummer EV SUV has an 800-volt electrical system with fast charging speeds of up to 300 kilowatts. It also boasts a 200-kilowatt-hour battery pack. The SUV can provide a 300-mile driving range after charging.

The bridge, now known as the Walkway Over the Hudson, opened in 1889 as the Poughkeepsie-Highland Railroad Bridge to transport raw materials to industrial centers. When it first opened for use, the Walkway Over the Hudson was the world’s longest bridge.
At 212 feet above the Hudson River, this 1.28-mile linear park offers visitors scenic views north to the Catskill Mountains and south to the Hudson Highlands. The Walkway comprises the Hudson Valley Rail Trail Network, connecting Ulster County’s Hudson Valley Rail Trail to the William R. Steinhaus Dutchess Rail Trail.
Open from sunrise to sunset throughout the year, the Walkway Over the Hudson offers visitors unobstructed 360-degree views of the Hudson River and the surrounding scenic valley. A distinctive 21-story ADA handicapped-accessible glass-enclosed elevator provides access to the walkway from the Poughkeepsie waterfront at Upper Landing Park. The elevator is open seasonally from 9 a.m. until 90 minutes before the park’s closing.
You can access the Walkway Over the Hudson from 87 Haviland Road (Highland entrance), 61 Parker Ave. (Poughkeepsie entrance), and 83 N. Water St. in Poughkeepsie (Upper Landing Park) for the elevator entrance.
Visit the Putnam County Veterans Memorial Park
Take a two-minute drive from downtown Carmel to explore Putnam County Veterans Memorial Park. The park, which encompasses more than 200 acres, offers opportunities for hiking, fishing, picnicking, and swimming at the only public county-owned lake in Putnam.
As its name suggests, Putnam County Veterans Memorial Park contains several memorials to those who served in the U.S. military. The lower section of the park features the Veterans Memorial, flanked by an M60A3 tank and a Cobra helicopter suspended approximately 20 feet in the air on the other side. Crossed Navy anchors rest next to the tank. A small veterans museum contains exhibitions that feature authentic memorabilia from before the American Civil War to present-day military operations.
Visitor parking is available on Gipsy Trail Road. The cost is $8 a day, $40 for a season’s pass for county residents, and $85 for a season’s pass for individuals who live outside the county. Senior discounts are also available, and parking is free for veterans. The park is open daily from 10 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., Memorial Day through Labor Day, and 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. during the fall, winter, and spring.

Just like routine maintenance is essential for keeping your car running its best, taking time to clean the vehicle’s interior can preserve its longevity. Whether it’s vacuuming your floor mats or wiping down your leather seats, when you prioritize the cleanliness of your car’s interior, it can help the materials last longer.
As part of your car’s interior maintenance, taking care of your dashboard is an important step. The dashboard is often the first part of your car passengers notice when they sit down. The dash also contains your car’s essential controls, including its heating and air vents, speaker system, control knobs, and display. By caring for the rules embedded in your dash, you can keep them functioning longer. This can save you money and ensure that the controls always work. Here are some tips for maintaining your dash, considering what materials and products to use.
Gather Your Materials
The first step to doing a thorough cleaning of your dashboard is to have suitable materials. Having the right equipment to remove dust, eliminate germs, and refresh your dash can leave it smelling fresh and looking good. Here are some materials that you might need to clean your dash:
Vacuum with a brush attachment.
A soft microfiber cloth.
Water with mild soap.
A toothbrush or soft paintbrush.
Your favorite brand of polish.
These are just our recommended supplies for cleaning your dash. Depending on the materials in your car’s interior, you may use other products. For example, you might use a specialized polish for wood or chrome accents inside your vehicle. Always make sure the products you use are safe for the materials used in your car. Some harsh disinfectants may use chemicals that can eat away at plastics or varnished accents, so refer to your user manual and read all product labels carefully before applying them inside your car.
Remove Dust
After gathering your supplies, the first step is to remove as much dust as possible from your dash. Use your vacuum with a brush attachment to suction the dust from the dashboard, steering wheel, speakers, and air vents. This is a great way to remove most of the dust from your dash without spreading it throughout the vehicle. At this step of the cleaning process, the vacuum may be a better tool than simply wiping the dash with a cloth.
Wiping the dash may send the dust particles into the air, leaving them to settle back into the car’s interior later. When you use a vacuum with a hose, you’re picking the dust-up and ensuring it gets collected in the vacuum instead. Depending on the configuration of your dash, you may experiment with different attachments so you can get into all the nooks and crannies of your vehicle.
Wipe Down and Disinfect
Once you’ve removed as much dust as possible with your vacuum, switch to using a microfiber cloth dipped in a solution of water and mild soap. A microfiber cloth is softer than a standard towel so that it won’t scratch the inside of your vehicle. Additionally, microfiber cloths are better at capturing dust particles rather than spreading them across your dash. Using water and mild soap can provide some gentle cleaning that doesn’t require harsh chemicals that may damage your vehicle’s interior.
If desired, you can also use a disinfectant to wipe down your dash. A disinfectant can kill any germs that may be living on your dashboard. When choosing a disinfectant to use inside your car, make sure you use one that’s safe to apply to the materials that make up the inside of your vehicle. For example, some disinfectants contain strong chemicals that can eat away at varnish, chrome, plastic, or leather.
Clear Vents and Speakers
While dusting and wiping down your vents can remove most of the dirt and dust accumulated in them, you may need to spend additional time cleaning them fully. Try using a toothbrush or soft-bristled paintbrush to clean the slats in your air vents or the holes of your speaker system. These brushes can get into narrow spaces to clear out debris. Cleaning your vents can improve the air quality that circulates through your vehicle, and removing obstructions from your speaker system may improve its sound.
Dry and Polish
Wipe down your dash with a dry microfiber cloth when you’re done. This can remove any remaining water or excess product from your dash. Removing excess product can prevent chemicals from sitting on your dash and causing damage. It can prevent a film from forming on the interior of your car, which may make your dash look cloudy or feel tacky to the touch. If using a polishing product, apply this after you’ve finished cleaning your dash.
Tips for Getting Those Hard-to-Reach Areas
Your car’s dash may include some tight spaces that are hard to reach. Here are some tips to help you get into all the crevices of your vehicle:
Use narrow vacuum attachments that can fit into tight spaces to collect dust you can’t reach with a cloth.
Get a toothbrush or paintbrush to remove debris that collects in your vent slats, window crevices, and speaker holes.
Consider using a brush and vacuum attachment at the same time. Use a dry brush to sweep debris out of tight spaces and apply the vacuum hose to remove it.
Try using a can of compressed air to blow out any dust collected in tight spaces.
Apply cleaning products to your cloth or brush when cleaning tight spaces to control where it’s applied.

Owning a vehicle is a huge investment. One of the best ways to protect that investment is to keep up with maintenance, get repairs done as needed, and wash it like a professional, thoroughly and often. At Meadowland GMC, we believe there is a difference between running your car through an automated car wash and taking the time to wash it like a professional. Keep reading to find out why it’s important to wash your car properly, the supplies you’ll need, and the exact steps to follow for a clean, shiny vehicle.
Why You Should Properly Wash Your Car
It’s no secret that washing your car has many benefits. Not only can it make you gleam with pride when you take that freshly washed vehicle out for a ride, but it also provides several practical advantages. A car that is professionally washed is far less likely to have scratches or swirl marks on the paint. This type of damage is often a result of using the wrong cleaning materials and techniques. Running your vehicle through an automatic car wash is also less desirable as these commercial machines can sometimes scrape or mar your vehicle.
Cleaning the exterior of your vehicle properly keeps debris like dirt, bugs, bird droppings, and salt from eating away at the paint. Eroding paint can lead to expensive and unsightly body rust repairs. Washing your car regularly can also extend the life of your vehicle. This results in getting more mileage out of your car, truck, or SUV. When it’s time to get a new vehicle, you can sell it or trade it in at a higher price.
Using the wrong materials can also cause damage to your vehicle by dulling the finish over time. We highly recommend using a microfiber cloth or mitt to wash your car rather than a sponge. Sponges are too abrasive and can cause tiny scratches in the vehicle’s paint. These cleaning tools tend to hold in the dirt and grime. As they are dragged over the paint, the dirt in the sponge can cause damage to your vehicle.
Supplies You Need To Wash Your Car
Now that you know why it’s important to wash your car using professional tools and techniques, let’s take a look at the various supplies you’ll need.
Two 5-gallon buckets.
Grit guard insert.
Wheel cleaner and brush.
Car wash shampoo.
Car wash mitt made of microfiber.
Hose and nozzle.
Foam gun or foam cannon.
Air blower and microfiber towel for drying.
High-quality protectant.
How To Wash Your Car Like a Professional
To wash your car like a professional, we recommend you begin with the wheels and then move on to washing, rinsing, and drying the body of the car. The last thing you’ll want to do is wipe it down with a high-quality protectant. For the best possible results, follow the steps below.
Prep Supplies
Before you begin washing your car, it’s best to have all supplies prepped and ready to go. Gather your choice of car wash shampoo, two 5-gallon buckets, foaming gun or cannon, washing mitts, hose with nozzle, microfiber towels for drying or air blower, and vehicle protectant. Fill one bucket with soapy water using the car wash shampoo. Fill the other bucket with water to be used as a dirty rinse bucket. You’ll want to place the grit guard insert in this bucket too.
Clean the Wheels
Cleaning the wheels first keeps the wheel cleaner from drying directly on the car’s paint. Apply the cleaner to the wheels. Take a wheel brush and clean both the front and inside of the wheel. In between cleaning each tire, thoroughly rinse all dirt and debris from the brush. Be sure to rinse each wheel after you’re done cleaning. Dump the water from both buckets and refill again with soapy water and clean water. Now you’re ready to begin washing the body of your car.
Pre-Clean Your Vehicle
You’ll want to pre-clean your vehicle to remove that top layer of dust and dirt. If you skip this step, you are increasing the chances of scratching your car. Begin by foaming the vehicle’s entire exterior. This will help to wet and loosen that top layer of dirt, dust, and grime. Rinse off the foam with the hose.
Wash Your Car
Now you’re ready to begin washing your car. Dunk the washing mitt into the bucket of soapy water and begin cleaning your vehicle using a side-to-side motion. Start at the roof, then move on to the windshield and the hood. Work your way around the vehicle, sticking to a side-to-side motion. Every so often, place the mitt into the dirty rinse bucket and move it around to get rid of all the dirt that has accumulated. Squeeze the mitt as much as you can and then get it wet and soapy by placing it in the soapy water bucket.
Repeat this pattern, washing the vehicle from top to bottom. The dirtiest part of most vehicles is the bottom third, so you may need to spend extra time on this portion.
Rinse Your Car
Now that you have washed your entire vehicle, including the wheels, it’s time for the rinse. Use your hose and nozzle to completely rinse all the soapy water off the car. Begin at the roof and work your way down to the bottom.
Dry Your Vehicle
Taking the time to dry your vehicle will prevent unsightly water spots from forming on the exterior paint. If you are using an air blower, begin drying by working your way from the top to the bottom. Once most of the water is gone, use a clean microfiber towel to dry the rest of the vehicle. Be sure to focus on the small nooks and crannies where water can remain, such as the door sills, spoilers, and grilles.
Apply a Protectant
While you can end your car washing job by simply drying it, you may want to consider applying a high-quality protectant. This product will not only improve your car’s shine but also protect the paint from dirt, bird droppings, tree sap, and other damaging materials. Use a clean microfiber towel to apply the protectant.
