HLAR is a non-profit animal rescue organization in the Hudson Valley. You can find the biographies of available pets online to help you connect with the right four-legged friend. The adoption application is also available online, so you can get started before you meet your potential future pet. HLAR is foster-based, so all animals are located in foster homes, and there is no shelter to visit.

PawSafe Animal Rescue

PawSafe Animal Rescue started in 1995 to provide homes to companion animals without homes and rescue animals from kill shelters. The goals of PawSafe include:

  • Preventing cruelty to animals through animal protection laws.
  • Sharing their knowledge of animal welfare organizations.
  • Reducing overpopulation through spay/neuter programs.
  • Developing compassion towards these animals through community education.

PawSafe also works to find homes or shelters for injured, sick, abandoned and abused animals.

You can view the gallery of dogs for adoption at PawSafe Animal Rescue online to find a furry friend that fits your family. Once you’ve found your dog, you can submit an online application questionnaire and make an appointment to meet your potential pet. Adopted dogs are updated in the gallery in real-time to reduce the chances of falling in love with a dog online after someone else has already adopted it. PawSafe has two locations: 110 Sandy Beach Road in Ellington, Connecticut, and 311 Route 292 in Patterson, New York.

Take Me Home Pet Rescue

Take Me Home Pet Rescue is a non-profit organization dedicated to saving the lives of puppies and dogs located in high-kill shelters. Take Me Home is responsible for all medical care of the animals, including vaccinations, microchipping, and spay/neuter services. After a veterinarian checks the animals, they are sent to area foster homes that open their homes and volunteer their time to care for these dogs until they’re adopted. Available pets and the application required to adopt from Take Me Home Pet Rescue can be found online.

NYC Second Chance Rescue

Another non-profit organization helping to save the lives of dogs is the NYC Second Chance Rescue, established in 2009. You can view the adoptables and complete your dog adoption application online to bring home a new best friend. NYC Second Chance Rescue runs specials on their adoptable, such as Loving Large, for all dogs over 50 pounds. You get their weight in savings, so if you have a 70-pound dog, you save $70 on its adoption fee: the bigger the dog, the bigger the discount, and the bigger the love.

Paws Crossed Animal Rescue

Paws Crossed Animal Rescue is a no-kill non-profit organization working to save dogs one at a time. You can find them at 100 Warehouse Lane South in Elmsford, New York. You can adopt dogs, cats, and even barn cats to help control the rodent population around your country home. Available animals are viewable online, along with the adoption questionnaire to get you started toward pet ownership.

Paws Crossed also has a special Seniors for Seniors adoption program that matches owners over 70 with pets over seven years old for a discount. You can visit them Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. or Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. to complete an application form, meet your future fur baby, or complete the adoption process. If you’re looking for an incredible SUV with all the hallmarks of GMC quality, the GMC Acadia and Terrain should be at the top of your list. Each offers a sleek exterior style, futuristic interior design, and state-of-the-art performance with excellent safety features. Given their similarities, choosing between them can be difficult, so we’ve highlighted a few aspects worth considering in this article.

Introducing the Acadia

The Acadia is a crossover seven-seater SUV. It offers a 2.6-liter or 3.6-liter engine, a twin-clutch all-wheel-drive (AWD) system in the All-Terrain package, and redesigned lighting. The current model’s fuel economy has increased substantially compared with past designs to 18 mpg in the city and 25 mpg on the highway. In 2020, it received a face-lift with new exterior styling, a new infotainment system that now includes Apple Car Play and Android Auto smartphone integration, and alloy wheels.

Introducing the 2022 Terrain
GMC Acadia

Like the Acadia, the GMC Terrain was first produced in April 2009. The second generation GMC Terrain, released in 2018, offers three trims with different engine choices, daytime running headlights, and a 7-inch touch screen. A luxury edition is available, known as the GMC Terrain Denali. A refreshed version was made available in 2022. There are two engine sizes available at 1.5 liters and 2.0 liters, with a top fuel economy of 27 mpg with the smaller 1.5-liter engine. A natural gas version of the GMC Terrain offers gasoline or natural gas options. You can retrofit the car to a natural gas version, reducing your running costs.

The Acadia Versus the Terrain on Performance

The Acadia and the Terrain provide high-powered performance, offering AWD and front-wheel drive (FWD) options. Both have a nine-speed automatic transmission and offer the StabiliTrak electronic stability control as standard. You will experience a high level of performance from both models.

More engine options are available with the Acadia, with greater power and towing capacity. With its 3.6-liter V-6 engine, the Acadia issues 310 hp, with 271 pounds per square foot of torque. However, if you don’t need this much power, a 2.5-liter four-cylinder version offers 193 hp and 188 lb-foot of torque, and a 2.0-liter four-cylinder model provides 230 hp and a torque of 258 lb-ft.

The Terrain offers a choice of two engines: a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with 170 hp and 203 lb-ft of torque or a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with 252 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque. Despite these differences in engine size, both offer you a powerful vehicle with comparable acceleration rates.

Notably, the smaller Terrain 1.5-liter engine has usually outperformed the Acadia in fuel economy since these SUVs were first produced, so if you’re looking at a preowned model or an early edition, fuel efficiency is a concern, go for the Terrain. If you’re considering the most recent models, however, the Terrain now manages 28 mpg on the highway, and the Arcadia is close at 27 mpg. Therefore, the Terrain is generally a better option for lower running costs, although these differences are becoming more marginal.

The Terrain is fully capable of off-road activities aided through the capability offered by its Traction Select system. The Acadia is better suited to off-roading, given its advanced all-terrain tires. Whereas the Terrain can tow 3,500 lbs, the Acadia raises this to 4,000 lbs, making it slightly better when more power and varied usage are needed.

The Acadia Versus the Terrain on Design

GMC Terrain interior

The first noticeable difference between the two vehicles is their size and shape. The Terrain is a compact SUV, the Acadia is a more mid-sized model. The Acadia has three rows of seats, which can comfortably seat six or seven people. There are 79 cubic feet of cargo space in the Acadia if you only use two rows of seats.

In contrast, the Terrain is a two-row SUV, comfortably seating five, and holds 63.3 cubic feet of cargo space. The Terrain has 29.8 feet of space behind the second row, with the Acadia offering 41.7 cubic feet. However, if you need to use the second row of seats, there are only 12.8 cubic feet of space behind the third row of the Acadia if all three rows are up.

These differences suggest that the Acadia is a better choice if you either need to transport many people or need a lot of cargo space. Both models offer the same level of legroom at a surprisingly roomy 39.7 inches. For the Acadia, the legroom in the third row falls to 31.1 inches, so this would be good for kids but less suitable for taller passengers.

The Arcadia Versus the Terrain on Safety

Both the Terrain and the Acadia offer advanced safety features. The GMC Pro Safety suite is available in both models, with the Acadia offering the additional GMC Pro Safety Plus option. This option includes rear park assist, which comes optional with the Terrain. Both models have a lane-keep assist feature, warning the driver when the lane is being departed, automatic emergency braking, following distance indicator, and forward collision alert. Both models provide good safety features, with the 2020 GMC Terrain receiving a five-star rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Conclusion To the Acadia and the Terrain Comparison

Which of these vehicles is preferred depends ultimately on your situation. Bigger families can use the third row for smaller kids, so the Acadia makes sense if this is a consideration. For those who want to make the best use of fuel economy in these turbulent times, the Terrain would be a better choice. However, if off-roading is your thing or you spend much time in the countryside, the Acadia performs slightly better in these conditions.

Comparing similar models available at Meadowland GMC, the cost of the most recent 2023 Acadia is $46,205, whereas the most recent Terrain is available for $42,345. The best way to choose is to come and look at these two models side-by-side and take them through their paces. At Meadowland GMC in Carmel, New York, there is a wide range of Acadia and Terrain vehicles available, so why not come by and check them out?

Everyone likes to save money, especially on large purchases like buying a new car. It’s getting harder to haggle with dealers to get the price tag of a vehicle you’ve been eyeing down to something in your price range. Luckily, you can sometimes come across deals that can get you a discount on the vehicle you want. The GM Supplier Discount program can save qualifying buyers a lot of money. Let’s find out the GM Supplier Discount, who can use it, and how the program works.

GM Supplier Discounts Explained

What Is the GM Supplier Discount?

Through the GM Supplier Discount, qualified participants can purchase or lease brand-new vehicles from dealerships offering a discount program for less than the sticker price. Participants must be from the United States. It’s important to read through the terms and conditions of the program to fully understand what you agree to by taking advantage of the discount. Using the GM Supplier Discount, you can save quite a bit off the MSRP of the vehicle you want to drive. It’s a deal worth pursuing if you qualify.

Of course, some restrictions come with the program that we’ll discuss later. But if you want to save more on a vehicle purchase, the GM Supplier Discount could be for you.

Do I Qualify for the GM Supplier Discount?

The GM Supplier Discount is available to eligible participants, which GM defines as:

  • Active employees of eligible GM supplier companies residing in the United States.
  • Active employees of eligible GM fleet and commercial companies residing in the United States.

Any salaried employee working full- or part-time in an eligible GM company can use the discount program to get a better deal on a new Chevrolet, GMC, or other outstanding GM vehicle. GM excludes contract employees from participating in the program, however.

GM does allow you to share your discount with one friend or family member each time you purchase a vehicle using the program. Remember that you only have one year from the date of your purchase to pass on your GM Supplier Discount, so help someone else take advantage of the extra savings sooner rather than later. They’ll appreciate it.

How Is the GM Supplier Discount Calculated?

Because the GM Supplier Discount is meant to make it easier for you, the consumer, to purchase a vehicle at a great price, it’s easy to understand. Here’s the formula for how the discount is calculated: Dealer invoice price with applicable options + destination charge + $200 program fee

To work out your GM Supplier Discount, plug in the numbers and make some easy additions. Once you’ve calculated the number from the equation above, you can subtract the MSRP from the total to find exactly what you’ll save through the GM Supplier Discount.

You can often save a thousand dollars or more, depending on the make and model of the vehicle. You can usually combine the discount with other offers, so check with the dealer to find out whether any other savings apply to your purchase. You may leave the deal with more left in your bank account than anticipated.

Whether leasing or buying, you can use the GM Supplier Discount once every six months. This means you can continue to drive the latest model or change up the car you regularly drive for less.

Which Cars Qualify for the GM Supplier Discount?

You might be wondering which cars qualify for the GM Supplier Discount. Don’t worry; almost every brand-new vehicle from Chevrolet, Buick, GMC, and Cadillac is eligible. There may be some exclusions, and GM can change the vehicles included in the GM Supplier Discount program at any time. You may even find previous model years on the eligibility list, often discounted already. With new year models on their way to dealerships soon, this could be the perfect time to treat yourself to the ride you deserve.

To give you an idea of some of the savings you can expect, here are some discounts you might see right now:

  • 2022 GMC Yukon Denali: $3,710.
  • 2022 GMC Sierra 1500: $3,712.

Then, we can guide you on how to get your authorization number to use the discount and the rest of the process of buying or leasing a new vehicle.

Consistently bringing your car in for service appointments can help you save money on potential repairs and ensure that all the features in your car continue to perform optimally. As if that weren’t enough, regular vehicle service appointments can also help prolong the lifespan of your car. Read on to learn more about the value of always taking your car in for its maintenance checkups.

What Is Regular Vehicle Maintenance?

GMC Auto Service

Regular vehicle maintenance is a process recommended by most car manufacturing companies and service departments. It involves bringing your car in for a checkup on a regular basis to ensure that all its parts are in good condition and functioning at their best. The frequency of regular vehicle maintenance can vary based on factors like the car’s manufacturer and mileage. Most service departments recommend getting your car serviced every six months or for every 5,000 miles you travel.

When you bring in your car for a regular service appointment, the staff members at the service shop typically perform the following duties:

  • Checking or increasing the tire pressure.
  • Rotating the tires.
  • Changing the oil and oil filter.
  • Checking or replacing the air filter.
  • Evaluating the quality and amount of other vehicle fluids, including brake, transmission, coolant, and windshield washer fluids.
  • Assessing the belts and hoses in the engine bay.
  • Checking the brakes for their resistance levels and any strange sounds.
  • Eliminating any corrosion on the battery.

Most vehicle manufacturing companies also recommend that drivers take their cars in for service appointments when their vehicles reach certain mileage counts, such as 10,000 or 40,000 miles. For instance, your vehicle might benefit from getting various parts — like its steering knuckles or propeller shafts — lubricated every 10,000 miles. Take the time to review your car owner’s manual or talk to a specialist at your car dealership or service center if you have any questions about how often you should take your vehicle in for maintenance.

What Are the Benefits of Regular Maintenance?

When you take your car in for regular service appointments, both your car and your wallet will thank you later. Getting consistent service appointments can provide car owners with lots of great benefits, such as:

Spend Less on Repairs

Car repairs can be costly. Whether you need to get your brakes fixed or buy a new engine, these repairs or replacements are often several hundred dollars or more. In comparison, consistent maintenance appointments typically cost much less.

Reduce Fuel Costs

Regular car service appointments can also save you money at the pump. A well-serviced car can more effectively use every bit of gas within its fuel tank. By contrast, a car in need of a maintenance checkup typically has a less efficient fuel economy, so you might end up paying more for gasoline.

Save Time

Vehicle repairs aren’t only costly but time-consuming too. When your car needs repairs, it sometimes gets stuck at a maintenance shop overnight or even for multiple days or weeks, depending on how complex the fixes are. For people who rely on their cars for transportation, having a car stuck in an auto shop can cause more time spent using public transport or walking.

How Can Regular Vehicle Maintenance Help the Life Span of Your Car?

Whether you want to own your car for its entire life or sell it in a couple of years, it’s a good idea to do your part to give your car the regular maintenance it needs. Taking the time to get your vehicle in for regular maintenance checkups can help prolong its longevity. Here are the fundamental ways that consistent service appointments may be able to lengthen the lifespan of your car:

Minimize Repairs

When you consistently bring in your car for maintenance checks, you can limit the number of potential issues with your vehicle that could grow into larger problems. Whether those issues are with the tread on your tires or the battery power, this can help reduce the number of repairs your car needs. Your car is also less likely to break down on the side of the road if you bring it in for regular service appointments.

Optimize Performance

Bringing in your car for maintenance helps ensure that all the components of your vehicle remain in excellent condition, which can optimize the performance of your car. For instance, regularly changing your vehicle’s oil helps to keep the substance viscous, meaning that it has a thick and sticky consistency. Less viscous oil builds up condensation, which makes your engine operate more slowly. Making sure to change out your oil every six months, after you drive another 5,000 miles, or based on a different piece of advice from your car’s manufacturer can help contribute to your car’s overall power and efficiency.

Improve Safety

A key part of car maintenance checks is examining all features that help your car keep you, your passengers, fellow drivers, and pedestrians safe. During car service appointments, experienced technicians and mechanics look at your vehicle’s brakes, engine, tires, and other essential features that can protect you while on the road. In the long run, it’s usually safer to perform maintenance or replace these parts as needed to increase the vehicle’s safety and, in turn, its longevity.

Optimize Car Value

If you’re interested in eventually selling your car or you have a leased car, it’s important to know that getting regular service appointments can optimize the value of your vehicle. If you take your car in for consistent maintenance, you might be able to sell it for a good price down the road, as a well-maintained vehicle can have a higher value than less well-maintained vehicles of the same make and year.

Similarly, bringing your car in for regular service appointments is a good idea for those who are currently leasing a vehicle. Depending on factors like the terms of your lease agreement, the car’s value at the end of your lease agreement might change. If the car’s value ends up being more than the initially anticipated amount, you could get a refund.

We hope that you’ve enjoyed learning more about the various ways that getting regular car services can prolong your vehicle’s life span. Do you have other tips for how to make your vehicle last as long as possible? Let us know in the comments section of this blog. And if you have a question about car maintenance sessions or would like to book a service appointment, feel free to fill out our online form or make an appointment now.

The best soccer nations on the planet will converge in Qatar for the 2022 World Cup this November. Running from Nov. 20 to Dec. 18, most New Yorkers’ tickets and flights are out of reach. Thankfully some of the best local sports bars will screen all the action, so you needn’t miss a moment.

The Creek

The Creek in Croton Falls, around 12 minutes south of Carmel, is a cut above your average sports bar. Unlike most sports bars, you won’t just find bar snacks here. Instead, you can enjoy the same quality meals as patrons in the steakhouse dining room while you watch every World Cup match. Savor a thick NY strip with herbed truffle butter or some pan-seared scallops with a white wine cream sauce.
Location: 4 W. Cross St., Croton Falls.
Hours: 4 p.m. to 11 p.m. Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday, 4 p.m. to midnight Friday and Saturday, and noon to 11 p.m. Sunday.

Red Mills Pub

It might sound British, but the club sandwiches, wings, and steak fries they serve at Red Mills Pub in Mahopac, 10 minutes southwest of Carmel, are all American. This friendly sports bar has several high-definition TV screens, so you can see every game in glorious detail. If a match drags on, you can occupy yourself with a round of darts or play your favorite tunes on the digital jukebox.
Location: 575 Route 6N, Mahopac.
Hours: 10 a.m. to midnight Monday to Saturday and 11 a.m. to midnight on Sunday.

The Mahopac Inn

Another Mahopac institution, the Mahopac Inn is one of the area’s longest-running sports bars. It’s stayed in business so long because it gets the fundamentals right. Its TV screens are enormous, the bar staff and regular patrons are friendly, and the food is always good. The blend of Kobe and Angus beef elevates the burgers, while the blackened chicken rigatoni and shepherd’s pie offer a refreshing change from the standard sports bar fare. The Mahopac Inn’s extra-long opening hours are also ideal for overcoming time zones and catching every minute of World Cup action.
Location: 1927 S. Lake Blvd., Mahopac.
Hours: 11:30 a.m. to 3 a.m. Monday to Sunday.

Square One Bar and Grill

Square One Bar and Grill is another great option if you prefer upscale sports bars. Cross the New York-Connecticut border into Danbury, 23 minutes east of Carmel, for this high-end gem. With 14 different craft beers on tap, you can always find the perfect pairing for your meal. The kitchen makes all dishes from scratch with fresh ingredients. You can taste the difference when you bite into the burgers, sandwiches, and slow-cooked jumbo wings. The BBQ Beyond burger with vegan cheese and chipotle cauliflower tacos ensures non-meat eaters can join in the fun at World Cup time.
Location: 24 Mill Plain Road, Danbury.
Hours: 4 p.m. to midnight Monday, 11:30 a.m. to midnight Tuesday to Saturday, 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday.

Pippa’s Sports Café

Another Danbury institution, Pippa’s bills itself as a sports café rather than a sports bar. Rest assured, the alcohol still flows freely, especially during happy hour every weekday between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. Big League entrées, Hall of Fame sandwiches, and Sunday Funday specials add to the themed fun. But the big games are the focus here, with plenty of TVs and even some personal sets on the tables. Expect a great atmosphere with plenty of other fans this World Cup.
Location: 114 South St., Danbury.

However, it deserves its place because it’s an authentic Irish pub that opens late. If you want to cheer on the teams with people who call the game football instead of soccer, this is the place to do it. The shepherd’s pie, chicken boru with Irish whiskey sauce, and classic fish and chips give a nod to the owner’s heritage.
Location: 3262 E. Main St., Mohegan Lake.

Icons Sports Bar & Grill

However, it’s worth crossing the border because it puts sports front and center while remembering what enhances your viewing experience — friendly staff and a varied menu. All the usual bar snacks, such as burgers, wings, and hot dogs, are present and accounted for, but you can also choose poke tuna, lemon pepper chicken, or BBQ salmon if you’re tired of the old favorites. The beer menu is always changing, and you can try exciting ales from around the world as you cheer on soccer’s best.
Location: 80 Connecticut Highway 39, New Fairfield.
Hours: Noon to 1 a.m. Sunday to Thursday, noon to 2 a.m. Friday and Saturday.

Centennial Grille Room

Centennial Grille Room

Let’s start in our own backyard with Centennial Grille Room, a buzzing sports bar at Carmel’s Centennial Golf Club. The bar opens early so that you can catch those morning matches. Start the day with a breakfast burrito or the signature Centennial breakfast. There’s also heartier fare as the day wears on, including blackened chicken tacos, penne a la vodka, and chicken parmesan.
Location: 185 Simpson Road, Carmel.
Hours: 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday to Sunday.

Taste for CHASE.

It’s worth taking the 75-minute drive to Wallingford in your new GMC vehicle to enjoy the festivities at the annual Taste for CHASE. Just make sure you bring a designated driver because you won’t want to miss indulging in the spirit and wine tasting. Taste tapas-style dishes while you enjoy the blues and classic rock tunes from Blues on the Rocks.

The Taste for CHASE event is always a lot of fun, but there’s a serious reason behind it. Chase Broussard created The Chase Fund two weeks before succumbing to lymphoma. The illness claimed his life just three days before his 27th birthday. This event remembers him and supports the nurses who help cancer patients every day. Chase believed that cancer research was adequately funded, so he created his foundation to help the guardian angels he felt were often overlooked. Making the decision to lease a new vehicle can be an exciting time. Before you start signing any lease paperwork, it’s essential to understand the unique contract terms and payment structures of leased cars. Read on to learn more about vital information related to leasing a new vehicle.

What To Know Before Leasing a Vehicle

GMC Yukon - GMC Leasing Tips

If you’ve decided to lease a vehicle, you probably can’t wait to hit the open road with your new car. Prior to going on any adventures, though, it’s a good idea to make sure that you know what exactly leasing a car entails. Here’s what our car experts say you should know before deciding to lease a car:

Understand Lease Payments

Paying for a leased vehicle is different than buying a car and paying it off over time. Each month, you only pay a portion of the cost for the total time you plan to lease the car. Rather than paying for the entire car, drivers with a leased vehicle only pay for the portion of the vehicle they’ll use while the lease remains active. Each lease payment takes into account how much experts expect the vehicle to depreciate while the lease lasts.

As an example, a car that typically sells for $50,000 may have an estimated worth of $30,000 after a two-year lease period. If you decide to lease this vehicle, each monthly payment will contribute toward the $30,000 value amount rather than the $50,000 price tag.

Know the Contract Terms

When you decide to buy a vehicle, that vehicle becomes yours even if you still have outstanding loan payments to make. By contrast, leasing a vehicle doesn’t give you ownership of that car. You essentially agree to pay for an extended rental car when you lease a vehicle. During your lease, you’re expected to take care of the vehicle so that you can return it in good condition when your lease contract expires. Lease durations can vary, but they typically last between 24 to 48 months.

Think About When You want to Turn in the Vehicle

Before you go into the dealer, know approximately how long you want to lease the vehicle. If you later want to turn in the car before your lease period expires, you might end up paying additional fees. It’s also important to stay within the mileage restriction specified in your lease contract, so having an approximate idea of how many miles you plan to drive for the lease duration can be helpful.

Questions To Ask About Leasing a Vehicle

Once you understand the general principles of lease contracts and have an approximate idea of what you want your lease terms to look like, it’s time to start talking to dealers about what types of lease arrangements they can offer you. Here are some of the questions you might want to ask while at a dealership pertaining to their leasing options:

How Much Money Would I Pay Up Front?

Just like with purchasing a car, getting a leased vehicle typically involves both an initial down payment and monthly payments for the duration of the contract. Some lease contracts may have higher initial payments upfront in exchange for lower monthly payments. In general, it’s actually a good idea not to pay too high of an upfront cost for a leased vehicle because this may not save you much money down the road. For instance, if your leased vehicle gets lost or stolen, you might not receive an insurance payout that covers your initial down payment.

What’s the Car’s Residual Value?

The residual value refers to the vehicle’s estimated value at the end of the lease period. Higher residual vehicle values lead to lower monthly lease payments. Knowing the car’s residual value can help you determine what a reasonably priced lease for the vehicle you want might look like.

How Many Miles Does the Lease Include?

In addition to specifying a duration for the lease, most lease contracts typically also include a set number of miles each year. If you’re someone with a regular commute or who travels by car frequently, you might want to look for a higher mileage lease plan than those who only periodically use their vehicle. On average, most drivers travel approximately 14,263 miles each year.

Are You Currently Offering Any Lease Specials?

Some dealerships offer patrons leasing specials to encourage higher numbers of sales. These leasing specials might relate to specific car models or target a certain group of prospective clients, like students or service members. Having a good credit score is also often a qualifying factor for these types of specialized discounts.

What Are the Fees?

Leasing a car typically comes with several fees, such as for acquisition and disposition. Knowing these fees ahead of time can give you a clear picture of how much leasing a car will cost you. You might also be able to negotiate some fees with the dealership, although be prepared to learn that some of the fees are non-negotiable.

Most of their restaurants provide a warm, friendly service that naturally comes from being a family-owned establishments. Whether you’re a local or just visiting for the weekend, you’ll be sure to find a charming spot to dine in. Read on to learn about three romantic restaurants that Meadowland GMC recommends for your next date night in Carmel.

Prato Trattoria

Carmel, NY Fine Dining

This family-run restaurant is an Italian gem among the romantic eateries on this list. The Spaccarelli family is proud of their northern and southern Italian heritage, and their pride shines through in how they showcase their homemade dishes. These include creamy mozzarella, crusty artisan breads, fresh daily pasta, scrumptious Tiramisu, and hand-whipped gelato.

First-time visitors are usually thrown by its location in a strip mall and the sign that touts it as a pizza restaurant. However, they are ultimately pleased with the welcoming ambiance and decor of the interior. The front of the restaurant has a casual, traditional pizzeria design that’s perfect for feasting on Italian pies. The other part of the building is the perfect setting for your intimate date night due to its dining room style and extensive Italian menu.

One menu fave is the chicken rustica, which is chicken breast sauteed in garlic, white wine, and rosemary and served with sausage, potatoes, and spicy cherry peppers. Patrons describe the veal Francese and veal piccata as outstanding with nice, tender medallions. They say that the Prato salad is amazing due to its artichoke hearts and lemony vinaigrette dressing. Fresh gnocchi with Bolognese sauce is also favored by many.

You should ask your server about the two special dishes that customers rave over. One is the stuffed avocado appetizer. Visualize an avocado shell that’s filled with smoked salmon, diced tomatoes, avocado, capers, and onions, tossed in fresh lemon, and drizzled with balsamic vinegar. The second is polpo, which is a grilled octopus entree. The tentacles are served over broccoli rabe, roasted potatoes, and hot and sweet peppers.

Be prepared to pay for surcharges related to substitutions and additions. Prato Trattoria is closed on Mondays.

Location: Putnam Plaza 1892 Route 6, Carmel, NY 10512

My Cousin’s

American cuisine is on the menu at this second romantic spot in Mahopac. David Gallo from Yorktown Heights created My Cousin’s in 2021. He knows every facet of the restaurant business: from washing dishes to cooking and running the front of the house. Gallo played a vital role in the opening of another Mahopac eatery, The Chophouse Grille.

After selling his part of that business, he ventured into fine dining at Del Posto, which is a former Michelin star restaurant in New York. That decision resulted in his current ownership on a casual upscale level. The name “My Cousin’s” is a testament to Gallo’s late friend, with whom he shared the dream of owning a restaurant one day. Since its opening, the spot has been the talk of the town.

The white tablecloth dining experience is perfect for date nights or anniversary celebrations. Frequent diners refer to the vibe there as classy, hip, elegant, and chill. The dish offerings are influenced by the expertise of Gallo and his family. Visitors can’t get enough of the cauliflower patties that come from his grandmother’s recipe. They are fried like pancakes and made with garlic, parsley, and parmesan cheese. Served with sriracha aioli, they’re a highly recommended appetizer. The beef and pork meatballs are named after Gallo’s Aunt Chrissy and are another appetizer favorite. They come with homemade red sauce and ricotta cheese.

For your entrees, you’ll find an assortment of proteins. Most people suggest the Chicken Milanese topped with an arugula salad or the smothered pork chop served with Lyonnaise potatoes. Others say that the Diablo Di Mare, a seafood fettuccine in a spicy tomato sauce, is the best choice. Additionally, Sis’s Favorite is a decadent linguine dish that gives the nod to Gallo’s vegetarian sister, Alyssa.

Regardless of what dish is considered the best, everyone agrees on the impeccable service, attentive staff, and appreciative visits from the owner. Since its opening, My Cousin’s has added a Sunday brunch from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. If you’re so inclined, you could have your date night earlier in the day with cannoli pancakes and candied bacon grilled cheese sandwiches. My Cousin’s is closed on Mondays.

Location: 954 Route 6, Mahopac, NY 10541

Northwood Inn

For traditional Polish dishes and American fares, you could spend your next intimate evening at Northwood Inn. Owner Zygmunt Pastuszka is very proud of his lineage and the cuisine that he prepares. This cozy, casual spot rounds out this list of date night restaurants. With a fireplace that sits in the middle of the dining area, Northwood Inn is a charming setting that’s infused with family-owned warmth.

Be sure to start out with their cold Polish platter, which features kielbasa, cheese, marinated vegetables, and a variety of Polish ham and is served with Polish bread. Another delightful appetizer is the bacon-wrapped pierogi. A third option is the sirloin carpaccio that’s served with garlic toast.

Golabki, a traditional Polish entree, consists of fresh cabbage leaves stuffed with seasoned ground pork and rice that visitors love ordering. The Northwood chicken dish is another favorite in which the chicken breast is breaded, baked, and rolled with crab meat and spinach stuffing. Another popular choice is golonka, which is a tender pork shank doused in gravy. Customers often talk about healthy portions, friendly service, and affordable prices.

If you’re seeking a high-energy date night experience, Thursdays are generally karaoke nights. Conveniently close to Route 6, Northwood Inn also offers outside deck dining when the weather permits.

Location: 14 Frances Kiernan Place, Carmel, NY 10512

The multi-use trail is perfect for bikers of all abilities and runs from Mahopac to Brewster. The scenic rail trail starts at a trailhead parking area in Mahopac. You can find it at Croton Falls Road and Mud Pond Road intersection, but there are several parking areas along the way, so you can park partway along the trail if you want to make it a shorter ride.

Once you get on the trail, it follows the Putnam Trailway north. It winds through the woods and takes you by small lakes and some local communities. It passes through Carmel and ends just west of Brewster.

Nimham Mountain Multiple Use Area

The Nimham Mountain Multiple Use Area is a popular spot for bikers. The area has three named mountains, making it a fun spot for mountain bikers. The Roosevelt Mountain Bike Trail is a 5-mile trail. It’s an easy trail, perfect for families or beginner riders. The gravel path runs through hardwood forests and takes you by Crom Pond and Mohansic Lake. Riders who want more mountain biking experience can take the single-track route that runs parallel to the wider dirt trail. This trail starts at the south end of the first parking lot.

North County Trailway

The North County Trailway is a biking and pedestrian trail on the former Putnam Division of the New York Central Railroad. The entire railway runs for over 22 miles, starting in Eastview in Mount Pleasant to the town of Somers on the border of Putman County. There are just over 5 miles of the North County Trailway in Yorktown. You can enter the trail at the parking access just south of Kitchwan or use the two parking areas in Yorktown Heights.
