Summer has arrived, and with it, the warm weather. The heat makes for great beach days, waterpark fun, and poolside barbecues. Staying cool and having fun is the name of the game. However, that’s hard to do when your car’s air conditioner (AC) malfunctions. Various problems can stop your AC from working correctly. Vehicle air conditioners employ a complex process to cool the air inside your car. The process involves a chemical reaction with a gaseous refrigerant called freon. Your car’s AC compresses the freon, increasing its temperature. Next, the AC pumps the hot freon through cooling coils that turn it from a gas into a liquid. The liquid then moves through the system, evaporating in a series of coils and getting extremely cold.
The fan system in your car pumps the warm air through these freezing coils, cooling it and returning it to the cabin. The warm air passing through the cold coils causes the freon to heat. This, therefore, requires a constant circulation of freon to maintain cool temperatures inside your vehicle. So, you have two systems constantly working to keep your AC running. Unfortunately, things can go wrong with all these moving parts, leading to the failure of your AC and your car not cooling down.
Signs That Your Car Needs Its AC Refrigerant Replaced
Fortunately, attentive drivers can spot the warning signs of a failing AC unit if they know what to look for.
Gradual Reduction of Cold Air
If your AC never produces cold air, you have a problem. Leaks in the AC system occur over time. Even a minor collision could knock something loose or cause a part to break. Trims
There are two different GMC Yukon options for you to choose from: the Yukon and the Yukon XL. Each has three trim options: the SLE, SLT, and Denali. The Yukon and XL have similar features, with the main difference being the size of the vehicle. The XL is the bigger model, with an exterior length of 225.2 inches compared to the Yukon’s 210 inches.
The Chevy Tahoe has many more trim options to choose from. Starting with the LS model, you’ll find the LT, RST, Z71, Premier, and High Country. Each price increases but also offers more standard features as you move up in trims.
Exterior
The GMC Yukon has several exterior features that give it a tough look that can handle many driving conditions. With 20-inch all-season Blackwall tires and 17-inch and 20-inch aluminum wheels, you can move this SUV on many different terrains. You can also upgrade to 22-inch wheels if you prefer a higher ride. You’ll also find standard features on the SLT model, like assist steps, LED lights, and heated outside mirrors, with upgrade options like roof rack cross rails.
The Chevy Tahoe’s sturdy exterior shows that it’s sturdy and built for safety and power. The base trim comes with 18-inch wheels and all-season tires that allow it to drive through the changing conditions of Carmel. It also comes standard with a chrome roof rack luggage carrier. Available for upgrade or on the higher trims, you can get 22-inch spoke wheels. Similar to the Yukon, this SUV also comes with LED lights.
Powertrain
Both vehicles are rear-wheel drives with the option to get all-wheel drive. The GMC Yukon comes standard with a 5.3-liter eight-cylinder engine that boasts 355 horsepower and puts out 383 lb-ft. ff torque. You can upgrade to the 3.0-liter diesel engine with less horsepower and a little extra torque. Each vehicle comes with a 10-speed automatic transmission.
The Chevy Tahoe has the same standard engine, producing the same horsepower and torque. If you choose the High Country trim, you’ll get a standard 6.2-liter V-8 engine that can generate 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft. of torque.
Cargo, Towing, and Payload
The Chevy Tahoe has a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating of 7,400 lbs and can trailer between 7,900 and 8,400 lbs. The GMC Yukon has the same payload with a max trailer weight of 7,900. Both offer 122.9-cubic feet in storage with the second and third rows of seats folded down, providing plenty of storage space for equipment or luggage for long trips.
The cabin space for both vehicles is the same. They both have three rows of seating that can fit seven people comfortably, which is perfect for when you’re on a road trip with friends or picking the kids up from school. For legroom, you can expect 44.5 inches for front-seat passengers, 42 inches in the second row, and 34.9 inches in the back row. Headroom measurements are 42.3 inches in the front, 38.9 in the middle, and 38.2 inches in the back.
Technology
Both SUVs have very similar technology components that come standard in their models. For example, you’ll find a 10.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a 12-inch driver information system. The Tahoe comes standard with a six-speaker audio system, and the Yukon has a nine-speaker Bose system. You’ll also find several power outlets and USB connections to help you stay connected on long drives or when off-roading.
Fuel Economy
The GMC Yukon and Chevy Tahoe both have the same fuel economy and similar engines. You’ll get 15 miles per gallon in the city and 20 on the highways. This can vary depending on the trim. With higher trims like the High Country and the Denali, you might see a lower fuel economy of 14 mpg when driving in the cities.
Safety
Both the Yukon and the Tahoe have the same safety ratings, protecting you on and off the road with airbags and technology features to keep you safe. Common features in the Yukon include forward-collision warnings, blind zone alerts, and lane-departure warnings. These are available on the lower trims in the Tahoe and standard in the higher trims. Available on the higher trims on both vehicles is adaptive cruise control, which adjusts your speed depending on the weather and traffic conditions. Sycamore Summer Camp 2022 is a good option for kids who need regular care outside the home. For children entering grades 2 through 8, Playground Camp is offered from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily. Primary Camp is available for those entering kindergarten and first grade this fall from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., with an extended care option offered for an additional fee. Camp starts on June 27 and runs through August 5. Look at the camp website to register online and for more information about activities, hours, tuition, and fees.
Sports Camps
Have a child who loves sports? Look into the sports camps offered in Carmel by the US Sports Institute. Multi-sport camps, weekly camps where kids get the chance to play up to three different sports daily, are provided for kids ages five to 14. Single sports camps, weekly camps that allow participants to specialize in one sport, such as basketball, lacrosse, and volleyball, are also offered. Putnam Trailway
Spend some time exploring the Putnam Trailway this summer. The paved path, which spans approximately 12 miles, is bicycle and pedestrian-friendly. Located primarily on right-of-way lands once part of the Putnam Division of the New York Central Railway, the trail provides visitors with a safe place to explore the area and enjoy the warm summer days. The trail stretches from the Westchester border at Baldwin Place to Brewster Village. The trail connects to the North County Trailway at Baldwin Place for bicyclists looking to cover more miles.
Fahnestock State Park
Visit Fahnestock State Park and take advantage of all it has to offer. Encompassing over 14,000 acres, the state park boasts picnic areas, hiking trails, and plenty of fishing, hunting, birding, and boating opportunities. Fishing is permitted at Canopus and Stillwater Lakes, and anglers are likely to reel in rainbow trout, bass, and pickerel, as well as many other fish species. Note that fishing permits are required and available for purchase at many sporting goods stores and town halls in the area.
For those interested in camping, the park houses a campground featuring 80 campsites and an area for RV camping. Restroom and shower facilities are centrally located near all tent and RV sites. If you plan on hiking during your visit, a portion of the Appalachian Trail runs through the park.
Ninham Mountain Fire Tower
Get your heart pumping when you hike to the Ninham Mountain Fire Tower. Located in the Ninham Mountain State Forest, the fire tower stands 82.5 feet high and sits atop a 1270-foot summit. To get there, you’ll start at the parking lot and follow a trail that winds about 1.5 miles through the forest. Once you reach the tower and make the climb to the top, you’ll enjoy sweeping 360-degree views of the land to the east of the Hudson River Valley.
Chuang Yen Monastery
Visit the Chuang Yen Monastery, a Buddhist monastery located on a remote hillside near Carmel. Sitting on 125 acres of land, the monastery is home to several temple buildings designed in the architectural style of China’s Tang Dynasty. You’ll find the largest Buddhist Vairocana statue in the Western Hemisphere. Measuring 37 feet in height, the statue is surrounded by 10,000 smaller Buddha statues.
Chuang Yen Monastery is a unique, interesting place to visit, but it’s important to note that it is an operational monastery, and guests are asked to be respectful, follow the posted rules, and not enter the restricted areas where the monks live. The monastery is open from April 1 through January 1 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.
