Summertime in Carmel, New York, isn’t just about soaking up the sun by Lake Gleneida or exploring the Putnam County Trailway. Starting in July, you can immerse yourself in a multitude of activities that cater to various interests, including arts and music, local food and beverages, outdoor adventure, and community gatherings.

The team at Meadowland GMC Carmel has put together this guide so you can take a closer look at some of the attractions to look forward to this summer in Carmel.

Farmers Markets

Farmers’ markets are an integral part of the community culture in Carmel, serving as a hub where locals and visitors can connect directly with farmers, artisans, and other vendors. Of these, the Carmel Farmers Market stands out as a vibrant and much-anticipated summer event. This market takes place every Saturday from 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., usually starting in late spring and continuing through to Sept. 30. As you stroll through the market, you’ll find a variety of fresh produce, most of which was picked just hours before the market opens.

This is a fantastic opportunity to buy seasonal fruits and vegetables directly from the growers. These farm-fresh products not only taste better but also have a higher nutritional content, as they’re sold immediately after harvesting. In addition, to produce, the Carmel Farmers Market is a showcase for local artisans. With handmade soaps and candles, crafts, jewelry, and other unique items, these local goods make the market a great place to find unique gifts or souvenirs.

Music and Arts

The spirit of summer in Carmel is alive and resounding in its rich music and arts scene. These programs and events offer a lively cultural respite from the long, sun-drenched days. If you’re keen on basking in the warmth of the local arts scene while tapping your feet to a vibrant rhythm, these two highlight events are a must-visit on your Carmel summer itinerary:

Carmel Summer Concert Series

As the sun dips below the horizon on Thursday evenings, Chamber Park buzzes with unique energy because it’s time for the annual Carmel Summer Concert Series. This musical event, spread over July and August, is a beloved summer tradition that unites the community in a shared appreciation for diverse musical styles. Featuring an impressive lineup of both local and regional musicians, the concert series spans an eclectic range of genres, meaning there’s something for everyone. Whether you’re a fan of classical melodies, groovy jazz, rhythmic blues, or even foot-stomping rock, these concerts promise an unforgettable musical journey.

And what’s a concert without a comfortable picnic setup? Don’t forget to bring along a big blanket, some comfy lawn chairs, and a basket filled with your favorite snacks. The park transforms into an outdoor lounge, with families and friends coming together to enjoy the stellar performances under the starlit summer sky. Join your community on Wednesdays from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. for an unforgettable experience.

Perched on the western shore of Lake Carmel, Arts on the Lake is a haven for art enthusiasts. More than just a community arts center, it’s a creative hub that fosters artistic expression through a variety of summer events.
